Happy End on ebay... warning!

A very nice Happy End but note if anyone here is bidding. Its registered in April 2001 which means it IS NOT POSSIBLE to register this car in the UK until at least April 2011 without several tests being carried out by VOSA at huge expense to the owner, even then it is doubtful it would pass. After 2011 it may be OK but not sure how youd get on with emissions tests as the CAT is not to EU standards so beware.

Im getting mighty peed off with Poles bringing these cars in and not MOT ing them or registering them and lying to us about how easy it is, sod off is it as I tried in 2001 myself.

thanks for the tip Barrie , i also suspect the people who bring them in are not too aware of the laws themselves and suspect as Dajwid reported that its common knowledge in Poland that we Brits are suckers for the 126 and just copy the last seller, and why register it if it takes away from your end profit as these guys are only doing it to make a buck after all?

even if you're right, it is someone who is looking very good car,will not see this problem and can wait a few months until April 2011 and then register.do u always see such a problems???not everyone has to ride that poo like u!!! nothing is too dificult if u really want to

Ah a polish person replying Witam!!   And one that lives in the same area no less.

I must say tons of UK cars go to Poland for parts, but in Poland you can't register RHD cars.

Sadly in the UK we don't really have 'Lapowki i kominacja' to assist in registering non UK cars. Yes the VIN can be changed and registered a a different car, but not really done here, as you know the 'Polish MOT' means nothing at all as they are very easy to 'arrange' even without a car.

Well, Id like to see the new owner get a 2 way CAT through an English MOT I have it from VOSA that it wont pass... only way to get a late CAT 126 on the road is illegally.

First of all every single time you see something "wrong" with any 126 you come out from the woodwork. Hate it. Whats more - read on:

My answer: Don't use Poles as general meaning word. Then mind - these were very simple people from nowhere (you didn't even bother to talk to them did you?) and even if they didn't check exactly this well known matter of catalytic converter it doesn't mean they lie. In the end I think there is much less lies from Poles about these 126's than mega doggy British guys selling all this after accident crap everywhere in "superb condition well looked after".

My answer: You actually do, all the time. Tons but tons of Brits - bulky villige guys and fat girls are laying down drunk as a pig on a polish streets saturday nights. They vomit, s**t and loo everywhere they want - even and maybe especialy in our beautyful parts of historic cities knew to the mankind long below anyone knew what London is. They can't shut up and are screeming all nights in city centres, think they are gods of style and fun. B*****. Good thing is - polish police is way more interested in changing it than british is here.
So basicly you send (sent already) loads of crap our way. One small 126 with cat won't make hurt to this country - that's all I am sure off.

Many thanks for the advice. What is the significance of April 2011? Why does it become acceptable emission wise from that date. It was a limited edition and looked fantastic, so was really tempted to bid but I knew there may be an issue with the emissions as there is a lot of thread on it. I wanted to research further but did not have the patience.

Jan be very careful about your comments, The old cars taken into Poland are taken by Poles, the companies inviting stag parties in Krakow, cashing in on Brits are run by Poles. The 126s coming in are Polish, not German, or any of the other Eastern European countries, Poles cashing in.
As for Polish police trying to change drinking  , to busy taking bribes and stopping any car with non Polish plates.

Jan I HAVE spoken to them, lived there 13 years, run companies there, worked there, even married to a Pole, nearly all my friends are Polish.

We are not being anti Polish, I am sure most of us have a Polish neighbour or work mate, Just stating that many Poles see that the Brits pay a lot for 126s and are bringing in a large number of cars, many that won't be able to be registered here. The sellers always (you included) state, 'very easy to register polish cars here'. you know very well it is not a straight forward procedure, if it was the cars would be sold on UK plates and sell for double the price.

A car forum is not the place for any type of Racist comments, especially not Anti British ones when you live in the country and very often try to sell cars to them

 Back to the car. It is always a way round things, depend how hard you try. You say it was manufactured in 2000. In this case, if you got a dating certificate from Fiat UK it would be possible to register as 2000. They are very helpful and usually don`t take longer than a week.
 As to the cat issue, I`m really not sure. I guess it depends on the MOT centre. They got a term which says, it depends how the car is presented. Would be best to talk to someone who can give a definite answer rather than speculate.
 As to registering the car, it is NOT complicated, but you have to keep in mind there will be an extra cost of about £200,(MOT, TAX, Insurance, Plates, DVLA fee of £55,-) I think that`s it. I can see your point though. It is annoying if people can`t be bothered to do this.
 As to all the other stuff I would say, things always work both ways and it is a double edge sward. I agree some cars from Poland might not be up to scratch, but surely there are some good ones too. At least you have more choice and there are still some cheap 126a around. If you don`t want one, don`t buy one! It`s simple.

The CAT on a late 126 is a two way CAT, there is an alternative, or there was from Scandanavia which is an aftermarket three way CAT. These met German TUV emmisions but no idea if it would work here or even if you can get them anymore. I tried the Fiat UK route back in 2001 and they wouldnt help at all, as it was not an official import they werent interested.

Jan, I happen to agree 100% with your comments on the Brits abroad... I find it totally embarrasing but heres a twist on it. We have a large Polish community in Bournemouth and now they behave in exactly the same way!

I had two chances to buy a new Happy End, in 2001 and in 2004... both times it was impossible to register it here. Anyway, arent those later ones supposed to rot very quickly?
