So time for an update on the little BIS. The dust sheets were removed and he was wheeled out from the corner to do some work on him.
First up, I fitted my newly trimmed door cards to the passenger door. You may remember I had the interior retrimmed. I really liked the original material but it was clearly cheap and not made to last. I hope my choice will stand the test of time. Door card fitted.
Also here is a little comparison next to the seat to show you the match.
Next up it was time to get the welder out. You may remember I had the matching rot in both sides of the outer sill. It's obviously a common place for these to go as both sides had already been badly plated.
So I made a couple of plates up from some sheet to fill both sides.
I then shaped it in to position to make sure it fitted well with a joggled top edge.
My welds aren't brilliant as I'm a complete amateur, so I've taken a pic after it was welded and ground flat!
I then got the filler out!
I then flatted down the filler, it was always going to go back to textured stone chip so I didn't go too detailed on the sanding. Just got it smooth and levelled out.
Next up I applied the white stone chip to the panels, to achieve the textured rough effect like the rest of the sill I dabbed it gently with a sponge to achieve the similar desired result. I was quite happy with it in the end.
It does need another dust over with the stone chip once it's dried just to get rid of the dark parts. It takes a few hours to dry so he was pushed back in to the corner to dry.
