I think Rusty's idea about putting a small amount of fuel directly into the carb might work, could be a fuel pump thing...

Rusty you nailed it. A bit of fuel down into carb and it fired for a few sec, then I put the plastic elbow back on too of carb and it doesn't. Any ideas?

Great now you know that it is fuel related so you can forget about the ignition. If the engine has not run for a long time you could repeat the "treatment" a few times to see if anything frees off or clears but be careful with the petrol. If you get no joy check the fuel supply. Disconnect pipe at carb & stick it in a jam jar , turn over engine to see if fuel is pumping. If that is ok and still no go then a strip down and carb clean would be next move  :)

Thanks rusty. I have checked the fuel supply.. It's all working, so it's going to have to be carb strip can clean. Any tips for it?

Also the carb mixture screw is strange, there is no spring on it, its just a screw into the hole, its not like that on my other cars, is that usual?

I think there should be a rubber O ring on it, this can fall apart.  Sounds like you need to get that carb off for a proper strip down. I found that the well in which the gauze filter sits can corrode up. It might be that you need to get yourself a bucket of Vinegar and give the carb a good soaking. :-)

I will take a carb off one of the spare engines for now, and have a go at stripping the one thats on now.

After lots of tinkering and messing around, lots of carb cleaner and scrubbing, the car is running!  ;D

 >:( >:(

So, today I repaired the choke cable and starter motor cable by replacing them, and it ran fine before this, the timing was a little out but it ran...
Then got in the car and attempted to start it, after it turned over a couple of times there was a huge pop.. Now it just turns over but won't start.. I still have sparks at the plugs and fuel going through the carb...

1 step forward 5 steps back

like you said its probably just the timing. thats proberly what the pop was just unburnt fuel.

hopefully you fix it again, i probably spoke to soon. :(
