Looks great. Im doing the same with my wheels. Looking at yours has confirmed to me thats the way to go. Got the small black hub caps from poland. I have cousin over there so he sends me parts from time to time. Loving the car.

Thanks for the kind works everyone ... couldn't get her in for MOT today so tomorrow it is! I need to get some stainless wheel bolt caps to set the wheels off further (I have almost 3 wheels worth of them lying around but no more from an old box of parts ) lol.

Sorted out the battery clamp scenario, secured the rear bumper, secured the trim plastics and secured the rear panel with some new stainless allen cap bolts!

Just need to do a little more trim painting (front and rear bumpers, front plastic panel quarter things, rear air vents, door handles and filler cap) to be happy for now!

P.S. I need a polish friend to try and sort out a CC700 rocker cover for me as I've had 0 luck attempting to get a reply from any sellers on Allegro

May be useful cheers , I bought a new one from fischer 500 in Germany but still got a little seapage which I can't even see dripping... might still be burning off the exhaust from previous issues though as its only when the exhaust is hot and clears up if left to idle. I wanted a CC700 one because they're cast and therefore not going to bend so easily .

Could you post the link from which you bought those gearbox brackets and how much where they for the pair? :/ mine are more dead that yours were lol, could do with the replacement,

Just got back from the MOT station... After a nail biting wait... It passed . Need to go to post office to tax as none of the new systems know what to do with it!

Dom the gearbox mounts were from axel gerstl in Germany but I think forum user "robin" has some available here in the UK. .

The car clocked 40mph from its own steam which is a first (apart from the terrifying journey back from buying it!).

Off to the post office now, wish me luck!

Congratulations! Best of luck with taxing it, I had the problem last year of having lost the old log book, two house moves will do that, and had to pay the DVLA £40.00 for a new registration document. But it was all OK in the end. Enjoy!

All taxed and mot'd!

When I was about to pull off from my dads to bring the car home I suddenly lost all power and the car seemed like it had ran out of fuel... bought another can of fuel and topped her up, and still no good... switched the battery over for a known good strong one and seems to be working... when I pulled up outside home though 7 miles later I noticed the battery light flickering on and off a little but then settled to off... thinking could be signs of a knackered alternator perhaps although it was having to work quite hard with the last battery . Will see what tomorrow brings if I don't go for another drive in it this evening lol.

Not sure if its just me or if the exhaust is making a racket, but at anything higher than low rpm it seemed to be a bit noisy from the back...

I'm wondering if the fuel pump is up to much or perhaps the gasket I put on was wrong and maybe the rod is dancing around... I just don't know .

It only changes with RPM and seems quite consistent... so hoping its just the vibing exhaust .

Could the back rubber engine mount be tightened too much?

I have nothing to compare it to!

Got me home and feels good on the road at 50mph no problem, only managed about 5mph faster than that to be honest! The hydrocarbons test limit was at 1200ppm, the car on test only had 43ppm... I think the CO2 % limit was around 3.4% but the cars CO2 output was 0.2%.

Congratulations buddy its a wonderful feeling getting it MOT'd and getting on the open road .

You'll find that after a mammoth rebuild such as yours had you'll notice a few things not right - I had no end of teething problems with mine when I fitted my rebuilt engine. The exhaust was blowing, the throttle cable was fitted wrong I had a water leak and an oil leak from the rocker plus loads of ignition problems but one by one you'll fix them

Seems something is loose within the exhaust causing the racket! Noticed a bit of an oil leak which I can't put my finger on in the dark... possibly the timing cover lol. Drive belt seems ok but perhaps the idle just went a little too low for a few seconds before picking back up enough. Starting easy enough ...

Forgot to mention I had a pap or two on the drive back from people that I think must have been amused to have seen it on the road. One from a car and one from a big HGV coming the other way .

Yeah you'll get that especially from the polish and occasional boy racers in golfs and fiestas taking the piss bouncing up and down in the car......... There just jealous

Aha yeah, of course they must of been Polish . I'll keep an eye out to see who looks, but I bet 90% will be local polish lol.

I agree with Gadge they are just jealous, i get alot of that down here especialy with my yellow/orange 126. the readings from the mot its not co2 its co and it looks to me as if your running a little lean for the likeing of a classic engine. i personally run my engines around 1.7% co but generaly it should be about 1.5 to 2.5% co. the co2 has a completely different reading normally between 12-14%.

I did consider perhaps it is running a little lean after seeing those readings... i'm guessing that's just at idle but will see how unscrewing the idle mixture screw affects the cars running tomorrow perhaps . I need an exhaust fabricating and a lambda installing... and some new jets .
