How are you testing for a spark? And how have you come to the conclusion you have no spark?

I am not after the ?50 competition, just like to see you get it running

IM LOOKING TO SEE A SPARK ... AND ALSO I HAVE A SCREWDRIVER WITH A BULB IN IT THAT I USE TO CHECK A FEED ...

THERE IS NO SPARK AT POINTS .. AND NON AT HT AS FAR AS I CAN TELL

I EVEN PRODDED THE SCREWDRIVE IN THE KING LEAD WHILST IGNTION WAS ON AND NOTHING ..

IM SERIOUS THOUGH ANYBODY WHO GETS THE LITTLE FIAT GOING CAN HAVE THE MONEY . I STAND BY MY WORD ...

PLEASE I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN...  IVE CHANGED BITS AND BOBS FOR NEW.. AND MAY HAVE DONE SOMETHING A*SE ABOUT FACE OR INCORRECTLY .......

Richard,

You must have power in the + side of the coil before you do any other checks.

So ignition key on (red ignition light should then be on)
Remove the LT lead off the coil the longer lead that runs to the harness to the front of the car.

With the connection of the  LT lead touch it to the bracket of the ignition coil, DO THIS VERY VERY BRIEFLY BECAUSE IT IS SHORT CIRCUITING!
you should hear the spark if there is power.

This is the first check, so do this check and I can continue with the next checks.

You will not get any power direct from the HT lead, unless the engine is running or the points activated!

great!

next check is to see if you have a spark at the points gap.
Make sure all leads are connected on the coil.

I presume you have set the point?s gap correctly, with a feeler gauge?

Ignition key on, make sure the points gap is in a closed position, this can be achieved by rotating the engine if necessary.

Get a small screwdriver to open the points gap (do not slacken the points adjusting screw) just push the top contact of the points, to create a gap in between the points.

You should see or hear the spark?

If there is a spark, I will go through the next stage to check.

If no spark you probably have connected the points incorrectly in the distributor (easily done)

hey bloody presto , i now have a spark , and kerrrrpowww its also a runner ... yipeeeeee

i cannot tell you how happy and pleased i am, that finally i have given the little fiat 500l life with all your help and i am so so gratful .....


what i did to get it going was :   retook the points out and this time made sure that i put them under the insulater washer to avoid them touching the disbuter body .

then, i looked at my other fiat 500 and worked out the sequence and washers for the condensor and the lt lead from the coil ...

then i cranked the little beasty over and woopieee ..... lots of smoke. but then carlmed down ....


put it into first and drove forward .. then reverse and drove backwords .. so it has drive also .....

The car doesnt tick over without a little choke.. how can i rectify this please?

like i said im well happy ........

HEY I BROUGHT SOME CHAMPION J8 SPARK PLUGS FROM EBAY . THAT I WAS TOLD WOULD FIT MY FIAT 500 ... ALTHOUGH THEY SEEM TOO SMALL THAN THE ONES IN ? CAN ANYONE OFFER ME ANY HELP ON THEM....

With regard to your spark plugs is there a code on the outer box which they came in? Im sur ethey would fit! Ive seen thsoe champ ones on ebay before.

(also asking for help and asking questions doenst mean your thick, quite the opposite!!!!!) it was certainly all beyond me!! so well done to everyne who assisted Richard
