air filters

I am thinking of swopping the air filter for a K&N type.   Anyone got any advice.

ill let the more knowledgeable answer,but i cant help but think that something will need modding on the cowling to keep the engine cooling as it should be.

if its a cone type just remove the air feed to the carb and using a jubilee clip fix it directly to the 90 degree pipe left on the carb. you then need to block off the original airfilter housing , or if you can be bothered remove it and plate the hole off.

I wouldn't recommend putting it so close to the carb as:
1. You will loose bottom end torque - too short intake
2. Engine will be sucking hot air and hot air = less oxygen

Try placing it in standard place sth like that:

To allow engine to get even more air you can get rid of a restrictor in the inlet:

and/or drill holes in the bottom of the air filter box.

It really works. Ohh and don't forget to tune carb after you've done the changes.

Mali - I have a modified old school pancake filter attached straight to the top of my twin choke solex (on panda head), is this not a good idea?  Maybe i should run a pipe to somewhere where the air is cooler.  I have already removed the air filter housing.

Do you have side draft carb or std Panda one?

std panda at the moment but i might get a dellorto dhla eventually although there is not much point until i get a different cam.
