Does anyone have a fiat 126 bis carburettor for sale
« on: December 28, 2006, 03:27:49 PM »
Hi, my bis starts fine and lasts for about ten miles until it conks out. I got my uncle to take a look at it as i'm rubbish with mechanics and he told me that he had cleaned my carb out, as it was full of gunk. A few weeks later the same thing happened, and he told me that i need a new carb. So does anyone out there have one for sale?

hi mate welcome to the forum, have you tried putting an inline fuel filter in? sounds like your jets are getting blocked from crap/rust built up in your fuel tank.

give that a go first, fore sake of 99p fuel filter.

agreed, throw a fuel filter in there, will only take 5 mins

keep an eye on it, you dont really want tht getting blocked up as well

it may be worth flushing out the fuel tank, im not sure if they have a drainage plug though.

yer do

its quite a common problem on older bikes and cars

part of the problem is that fuel stations put sand in the bottom of the tanks to prevent condensation in them.

which is great and it works, but its a pain once the sand makes its way into your tank!

have a good one

nice one matt, put it before the fuel pump (on the inlet line)

this will keep the pump nice and clean too.

i recommend one of these, you can clean them out and they look good.

you can get them for a £10er off ebay,

I have just bought a 126 BIS for parts...(the body is REALLY bad). I'm told the engine is a good runner. So if you are still looking for a carb, let me know..

I only need the hubs/stub axles/ wheels.

Cheers

Hi, I have just put attached an inline fuel filter just infront of the fuel pump. I took it for a spin and the same thing happened, after about ten miles it conks out. I originally thought it was overheating, but the temperatur gage is only at mid point. I does seem to be as though the car is starved of fuel when it break down though. I brought it in October and it is in amazing condition. It's like brand new, it was dry stored in a barn for years and has only done 4.5k miles. I have had quite a few teething problems though, because it had been standing so long.  Can anyone help?:???:

ok well, at leat there is now a filter there, thats a good start, it will stop anything blocking the jets, (otherwise you will be forever cleaning the jets)

often a leaky carb float can make it seem like its starved of fuel, but whats actually happening is there is too much fuel, as when the float become heavy (becaus its full up/weighted with fuel) it opens the needle valve to allow msore fuel in. (just like a toilet cistern) This is what happened on my BIS, when i first got it running.

you need to remeove the top of the carb, and take out the float, (big float, brass looking thing) take it out and give it a shake see if you can hear any fuel inside, also stick it in a bowl of water and see if bubbles surface. Also try a new needle valve, get a carb service kit from www.ricambio.co.uk give them a ring. (you dont get a carb float)

-----------------

i have only just thought, i think its your fuel pump, only back in september i drove from london to yorkshire, for about 15 miles my car was running beautifully, then all of a sudden it lost power and the car jurked, if i pulled over and let it cool for half a minute it would be fine again. When i got there i changed fuel pump and not a prob since, I would advise getting a new fuel pump (£20) and carb repair kit.

The best thing you can do is replace all the bits, you know its a fuel related problem so its going to be either fuel pump or carb, the fuel pumps rust internally especially when not used frequently (yours was in a barn for years i imagine?)

hope this helps

Hi Chris, thanks for the tip. I have to wait about an hour before my car is okay to drive again. I will change the pump, as its only £20 and I will check the carb out. Thank you. :)

just go to any motor factors , they still get them no problems. i did have two but gave one to jorge and ones on bis13 engine.
by the way do you want an engine for your bis (spare) as i need to have a proper clear out now that i have gone all waterless...
