hi mac,the haynes manual is pretty good for the aircooled...what that book does not cover would be covered by the guys on here, just ask as many questions as you want........the aircooled motor is very simple to sevice and operate, nearly bullet proof in standard form if looked after.

its very reliant on good quality oil and frequent oil changes and filter cleaning, you see,its not just aircooled, its oil cooled as well.

as for buying a car,buy the bodywork, dont worry if its not up to much mechanicaly, much cheaper to fix/replace a gearbox than replace sills etc etc

many thanks dave, I'll bear that in mind. (I'll have loads of questions.. <smile>)
I've got my ebay searches saved, and have expressed interest on this site, so in the meantime, just trying to read as much as I can and keep an eye out for one. I'd much rather work on the engine and mechanical stuff anyway, than body work. The plan is to get it road worthy, MOT'd and then if possible a respray. Keeping everything standard, but just want a really nice clean example with something to keep me interested. Am I right in thinking its a 2 stroke engine? Easy to take the engine out of the car? Would I need special equipment, or just a good set of standard tools from the local halfords?

Thanks for the tips about the oil. Other than ebay and this forum, any other ideas on where to find a cheap model?

I'll get that Haynes manual ordered.
