Accelerator

When I take my foot off the accelerator, the engine does not idle straightaway. It sort of drops to idling rev gradually. A spring might have come loose somewhere. Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Could just be a bit rusty if you have not used it for a while, happens occasionally on mine, take it for a long drive and it should sort itself.

Yes, it is probably partly due to lack of use. I couldn't see anything obvious visually from the engine compartment. I can rev it by moving the accelerator throttle lever by the carb, which springs back into its normal position.

Could it be the accelerator level spring?

The problem is more likely to be at the pedal end.  The pedal shaft runs through a tube across the footwell and that can get rusted/gunked up - best thing is to unbolt the whole thing and then give a liberal squirt of WD40 to get between the shaft and the outer tube and then work it loose.  I had the same problem on my old BIS and that fixed it...
