So......i got a set of X/19 wheels for my car and with the drum brakes they fit perfectly but now that i have put the abarth disk brakes on the back they touch the wheel.

Does anyone know what standard 13inch 4x98 wheels off another car will fit and give me the clearance i need?
Bare in mind im in Australia so we may not have the same wheels here.

When you say Abarth disc brakes do you mean Abarth 500? I have punto/seicento discs on mine with no clearance problems whatsoever?

If it is a disc brake conversion then there is no such thing as an Abarth set up unless as Gadge says it comes from the current Fiat 500 Abarth range in which case it would have been designed for a larger rim size and possibly have more braking power than what you have on the front end which would not be a good combo.

The biggest disc/caliper I know of that will fit inside a 13" wheel is the 284mm vented set up used in the punto HGT - I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure but even then you may need a spacer.

The callipers i have are off of the current 500 abarth. They seem chunky as hell. Perhaps i might get something smaller? I think my front ones are the punto ones?  I'll try the front ones on the adaptor plates i have on the rear and if they fit I'll just get another set. I really dont want to buy another set of wheels.

Thanks guys

I have a set of rear callipers from an FSO/X19 I think, with addapor plates that fit 13" wheels. Unfortunately not fitted at present. I am thinking of just upgrading the wheel cylinders with ones off the front, these have a larger piston diameter, this is a suggestion Gadge came up with and it should provide greater breaking at the rear without the potential of locking up prematurely. It also removes the need for adapters, modified cables and pressure valves.

I very nearly bought a rear disc setup for mine but was worried about the pedal being spongy. TBH using the bigger front wheel cylinders on the rear gives you more than adequate braking performance - about 15% more infact - as I found out quite by mistake as I accidentally fitted a front one to the rear once and it showed up on a brake tester when I took it in for its MOT. The only down side is that a rear drum setup doesn't look as fancy as a disc setup which to be honest is the main reason why people want to fit them but out on the road they perform brilliantly. No lockups (unless you stamp on the pedal) and easy to get parts for

Hmmmm......If i dont use the disk setup i will have to buy all new drum set up as well. I figure the money is spent so i micht as well make it work. The engineer said he would prefer i had disks on the back.
I will get a brake bias adjuster so the back doesnt lock up.

Im going to take all the measurements tomorrow that i need to give the wheel place. They are going to tell me exactly what wheels and offset i beed to clear the brakes. fingers crossed i can go a little wider than a 165. Might even be able to go a 14inch rim.....who knows. Time will tell.
Its just one of those issues doing something like this here in Aus. No one can tell you what works cause no one does it here and we dont have the same cars as over there to scavage for parts.
All good, I'll get there 😊

I run these 14's with no spacers required. They came off of a Punto I believe

Hi, they are SL1117 rims. 14" 5.5J Et 36. I run 155/55/14 as I couldn't find 165/50/14's in Europe.

I fitted them after putting discs on the front. I had spigot rings made for the rears as it's still drums I have.

The rear end is standard height and the front is already on a 30mm lower spring. I thought it would have settled a bit lower but in fairness it's only done about 50 miles since I fitted it 4 months ago.

I like the idea of getting some 14's for my car but am concerned with not being able to lower it much. I dont know about you but i hate the positive camber look on these cars. On the flip side, i dont know how anyone gets these things to have so much camber on the back? I have literally taken the suspension out of the back and sat it down and it doesnt seem to have that much negative camber?!  :headscratch:

Oh you can get loads! Unless they have a different set up in Australia. They use a basic swing arm which is set to give the best overall set up for normal road use but a draw back (or a plus in your case :D) is that if they go lower the wheels start to tuck under. Basically the lower the car goes the more negative it gets. I've had mine tucking in at the top before just by cutting the springs but I personally didn't like the look so did it another way. The fronts are a little more complicated as I found if you lower it just a little - say 30mm - the wheels tend to pop out at the top (positive) but as soon as you go lower 40-50 plus mm) then they start to go in (negative) but luckily they are adjustable at the front so I was able to lower mine around 40mm and still retain a neutral position.

Do your wheels rub at all on full lock?

I found i can get 165/50/14 here in Aus so it may be an option. My only issue is that we dont have 4x98 wheels here. My only option at this stage is a set of mini lights. Even then i have to buy blanks and get them drilled to suit. Changing over to 4x100 would solve pretty much all of my problems but that is super expensive cause i would need to get new hubs made. If the rear hubs were completely round i could just re drill them but they aren't and there doesn't seem to be enough meat in them to re drill as is.
