Changing Oil Seals
« on: June 17, 2016, 09:38:25 AM »
Hi All,

I'm planning on replacing the oil seals this weekend as it has been seeping for a little while now.

I've searched other threads, and people say its an easy job.  Can someone please give me a quick step by step?  It's not a job I'm familiar with.  Do I need to get the car on a ramp, or can it be done jacked up, on stands etc?

Thanks

There are very many oil seals and gaskets on an engine, which specific ones are you wishing to change?

Do you have an Air-cooled, or a Bis?

I'm guessing you might mean the crankshaft oil seals? If so then yes it is reasonably straight forward, I've done it on my Bis, the front one (where the oil filter is) can be done in situ, but the rear one behind the flywheel is obviously an "engine-out" job.

Driveshaft oil seals, sorry.

It's an aircooled model.
