help me for good run
« on: May 26, 2016, 03:37:15 PM »
Hi guys from Turkey.
I have a FSM650 airflow.
I made some modification on engine.

-32 SOLEX PHH
-47/82 SPORT CAM
-ELECT. FUEL PUMP
-FİAT PANDA HEAD(0,4MM THİNNER)
-COPPER HEAD GASKET
-SPEEDER SPORT EXHAUST
-LIGHTING FLYWHEEL
-ACCEL SPARK CABLE
-9/39 PİNİON (BIS)

but my car is not run well..working is normal. max speed on 3.speed 85km.. 4speed 95km..  speeding is not very well.. :( >:(

 I think,I have a 3 different problem..
1-compression is not enough for sportcam ?
2-cam timing is not true position?(but it is standart cam pulley degree..Should I change one steo negative or positive)
3-9/39 is not good for my engine?

what do you thik about my problem.
please help me.
And sorry my bad english..

Ill talk to you Yaa, My English is worserer than anyone here by a Yard stick,,,,,,,,, :P

Well it would seem from your quick assumption your right, But not a total loss,

A cam such as yours is a bit radical for road car and would run best with 10.1 to 1 compression as its a 309 duration camshaft, second I would guess the cam is not timed correctly due to a modified cam will always need to be timed in even on standard sprockets, try 110 after top dead centre max inlet valve lift unless it come with instructions to what timing it should be. also if the cam is not correctly timed you will not be trapping your compression.
3rd the bis pinion is a bit high as your spec of engine requires revs to give power but should still pull ok.

Does this help..........................NO

Thanks for your help friend.
I read one text in this forum (http://club126uk.co.uk/blitzracing/tuning.htm)
İf comp is higher than 9:1 it will be pre ignition problem.(But I don't know maybe this problem with standart cam? )
And I checked the 77,4mm or 77,6mm ,maybe 78mm from different car high comp piston.H40 (With reinforcement to increase the compression). But I coundn't found anyone.79,5 or others is very expensive..
I found only one but it's 77mm (http://www.500mania.it/ns/index.php/store_noeu_gbr/prodotti/engine/cylinders-and-pistons/pistons-5.html)
so...
Which pistons I must use for high comp.(any car)and where can I buy them. Or how many mm reduce on my panda head.
thanks..

Hi again,
Best start is to get a compression test done to see what you have, bigger Pistons will increase compression ratio but quess work is not advisable. If you got a local engine tuning garage not normal garage as everyone is an expert??? get them to have a look as at this stage your problem may be straight forward.
I would not invest in exotic Pistons unless you understand what your requirements are as this can be a waste of money. Standard cranks will not take 6000 rpm so forget high rev output unless you change it. If it was me I would change the camshaft for a tamer street spec and run 9:1 compression. Many over cooked cams fitted end up with undesirable results. Again your engine requires expert to look at.

 hi again
I think so my problem is fuel mixture.wheen I open the throttle mixture be  10:1 ..
which jets size is best size for my SOLEX 32PHH

Hi,

I am no expert in these matters but I have three pieces of information that may help you. You will NOT like them!

First, in tuning the 126 engine the main improvements seem to come from better airflow (so Panda head is good) and larger volume. That is, a 650cc gives more power than 600 cc.

Other changes such as compression ratio, camshaft etc give relatively small improvements, especially bearing in mind the cost of the engineering work involved.

The second observation is that these engines are fairly sensitive to racing or 'sports' cams. I have no experience here, but I listen to what others tell me over many years, and this is what many people with direct experience tell me.

It is generally true that if you change one thing on an engine, then you also have to change some other thing too, to make it work. Having changed the second thing, you then need to change a third thing to make the second thing work. This goes on until at last you have changed the entire engine.

Is this true? If you look at the seriously highly tuned race engines, you find it is true - almost everything in the engine has been replaced with some upgraded or re-engineered part. The truth is that the basic 126 engine is a fairly crude design, and it cannot stand very much extra stress or something will break!

You will find this too with engine changes. If you look at examples where someone has changed the engine to a Subaru or fitted VW cylinders, then you find the clutch will not handle the power, or the gearbox will not handle the power - again, you end up changing the whole engine unit so it is no longer at 126 at all.

As Smallcox has said, you cannot make a high RPM engine with the standard crankshaft as it is too weak.

I said I had three items. So what is no 3?

The third item is your carburettor. I do not know anything about this carburettor, but you may like to see this web site:

http://www.rmcarburetors.net/Tuning%20Tips.htm

According to this, the jetting of your carburettor is going to be a nightmare to sort out. It is not impossible, but it seems information about the "best" jet or the "correct" jet will be impossible to find. Therefore you will have to work by "trial and error". This means that you will have to obtain different sizes of jets and try them one by one, and hope that you will find one that works. This could be very expensive and take a long time.

So, what to do with your engine?

If you keep using 'extreme' parts in the top end - very high compression, racing cam etc - then it will not make a large change to performance, and it will put stress on the bottom end of the engine which may cause major failure.

You must decide - do you want to change all the bottom parts of the engine as well (new crankshaft etc)? Or do you want to bring back the specification you already have to something less 'racing' ?

It seems to me you have two main immediate problems - one is the camshaft, and the other is the carburettor. I suggest you replace the camshaft to either standard or something closer to standard, and replace the carburettor to a different make (Weber perhaps?) where there is more data available (and more supply of different size jets).

With these changes you will have a less powerful engine, but it may actually run properly! If you go the other way, and keep adding more extreme parts, you will spend much more money, and much more time, and have no certainty that you will ever get the engine to run properly.

I wish you good luck whichever way you choose to go  :)

Sorry, I meant to add a sports exhaust - this also aids gas flow through the engine and makes significant improvement for relatively low cost.

hi drcdb15
thanks for your help.
This is my nightmare :)
I will try different jet and second step use standart camshaft.
And I think so, Finally when I found money,Iwill buy 14.16v Fire standart engine :). I think this is cheaper way :)
