FIAT PANDA 4x4

i know its a little off topic but ive come across a fiat panda 4x4 quite cheap, i have fond memories of them as a kid for some reason and i was thinking of buying it. does anyone have any usefull info on them?? are they any good? any common faults etc. what engine size are they? is it just a standard panda engine are they slow? so many questions lol.

also, anyone ever thought about fiat 126 4x4? that would be ace but are the panda's any bigger than 126 or not? it would be a no no if the panda axles were too wide but i dont know whether they would be.

any info/comments appreciated!

I had one until last year Tommo(a Sisley).Great wee cars.Don't give much bother .Second gear syncro can be weak(I just double de-clutched).No quite bullet proof and don't rust as bad as fwd around rear suspension (as this was a dirt trap on them).

I know this is an old forum subject, but i have also owned a panda 4X4 and they are all 999cc to my knowledge, they have enough power but aren't as pokey as a normal 1000 panda as they have much lower gear ratio's.
For some reason most of the 4X4 models i see around now have around 100k+ miles...so, try and get one with an engine that's been looked after. Mine had 58k when i sold it and i still see it going around now...but lord knows what work has been done since.
Theyre good cars - but as with all small fiats, have their funny bits that you need to get used to.

if its cheap, go for it. 4x4s, especially Sisleys go for silly money now so decent ones could well be an investment. All the Mk2s are 999cc, the early Mk1s had a 969cc engine which was OHV, those are mega rare. Just check the 4 wheel drive works propely before giving any money away. The Classic Panda section on www.fiatforum.com are really helpful, try them!

drive and check the gearbox thoroughly,it suffers from weak second gear im told,and its special to the 4x4...........
