Rear hub / alloy wheels fitment
« on: July 09, 2015, 10:49:21 AM »
Hi all,

I'd like to talk rear wheels fitment, as a search in the forum left some topics unanswered. I hope this is helpful also for others, as I'm having safety concerns.

I have some widely adopted Cromodora 13" wheels which perfectly fit the front (disc brake converted) hubs, but barely rest over the rear hub.

If spacers are a no go for wheel/arch alignment reasons, I'd like to know if others here would advice using spigot rings to center the wheels, and which size is recommended.
Knowing where to buy would be superb.

Thanks in advance,

Andre

Spiggot rings are a good solution.
I wouldn’t want to use the wheels without them if there is a gap.
I had looked into them while I was investigating using another set of wheels. (I sold the car before I solved the wheel issue!)
They are usually made from Aluminium or an engineering grade of nylon.
Choose a reputable supplier as some Chinese knock of versions will be made from a very soft metal or plastic which will get damaged over time making it more difficult to fit the wheels.
The Nylon ones are as good as the aluminium ones. The load is spread over the whole diameter of the spigot by its design so the nylon ones will not be crushed if fitted correctly.
Nylon ones will be easier to fit the wheels as they will not bind over time.
They are generally sold by hub diameter and alloy wheel manufacturer so you may have an issue as I guess the wheels are for a fiat too!
If you google spigot rings you’ll find a number of suppliers, worst case you can have something drawn up and turned on a lathe.
