Question about the guttering...........
« on: May 12, 2006, 09:22:02 PM »
this is not strictly a mechanical problem more one about body work. a part of the gutter moulding on my bis was missing so i went to my local fiat dealers and got new mouldings. the guttering though comes in 2 straight mouldings, my old ones where glued in place and had gone brittle. I suspect they where only glued on after the car was resprayed as there is no mention of glue in the manual. also the guttering looks as if it will stay put without glue. what my question is when putting it on will it bend around the corners at the top of the front and rear screens or should i aply a bit of heat (will have to use my wifes cooking blowtorch as i have no power at my garage)?

cheers

hi bruce, all three of my 126's had some kind of glue in place to hold the mouldings, but i have replaced only (original) the aircooled ones and have not used glue.they hold very well,
as mine were pr used, they were already formed to shape,i guess you will have to gently heat them to fit,i would not bother with any ''gunk'' to fit them, its good to remove them time to time and wax the inner gutters.

my old italian built 126 did not have any, the new ones i got were £17.15 for the pair, i gave the parts guy the part number and they showed as being in stock. when i went in ealier they could not find the part number, so i got it myself from a 2003 parts catalogue i got off ebay.

no access to hot water at my garage, and i would need a pretty big container to get them in.
