« on: August 21, 2014, 10:45:37 PM »
Can anyone explain what this is, as in the bis handbook?
Thanks

On all engines there needs to be a gap between the rocket (or cam) and the top of the valve. This is measured with a feeler gauge.

Sorry I did'nt make my question clear. I have adjusted for the "Valve Clearance cold operation" at 0.35mm, but there is a spec of 0.39mm for "Valve clearance for timing check, inlet and outlet" which I don't understand?

It refers to the suggested valve clearance when checking the cam shaft timing using a degree plate attached to the end of the crank shaft.

Thanks Rick, won't be going anywhere near that.

I don't blame you, it can be a pain in the butt. My MG has an adjustable cam drive which has to be sett up using a DTI and degree plate, fine when you DTI has a probe long enough to properly reach the piston crown down a plug hole, mine does not! It required a hell of a lot of b****ring around to sort out. But in the end it seems to have been worth the effort.
But you shouldn't have to worry about that on a 126, it's a straight forward pair of sprockets with timing marks, no need for any fancy adjustments.

You should set the valve tappet clearance at .15mm. that's what I know as correct for both inlet and outlet.

Does anybody have a DIY  on valve clearance adjustment on a regular air cooled 126?

I want to know how to set TDC  easily etc…
