Accelerator/Throttle Cable + Pedal Adjustament
« on: May 06, 2014, 08:33:38 PM »
Hi guys,

My dad noticed that the pedal wasn't giving full throttle on the carb and only half opening up. The extra movement the cable needs seems to be impossible to find?

Inside the car, the pedal did lay very low to the floor and he ground a little off the stop to raise it slightly.

Any particular adjustment procedure? Or do I need a new cable? :(. Also... at the carb end of the cable, there is something that looks like it should clip somewhere... but i'm totally at a loss as to where it should go :).

Make sure the cable is fastened into this bracket ;)

Hmmm yes I appear to be missing this bracket!

Same here, mine has a different bracket towards the middle. Could it be a late or early BIS thing? April 88 reg, I assume built 87.

Hmmm... but you can still get full throttle? Not sure if the cable has stretched. Seems pretty tough but just lacking the movement to open the second choke venturi on full throttle.  Doesn't seem to be enough adjustment.

So perhaps the problem doesn't lie in the bracket :(.

Check the pedal assembly, they tend to stick so maybe yours wasn't returning fully and someone set the cable up with the pedal halfway down.
Does the second choke move ok? Mine was very sticky and wouldn't open when I got it.

The cable must go through some sort of bracket between the outer and inner otherwise it won't open the throttle fully

Not managed to locate the bracket anywhere yet. The pedal assembly isn't stiff and moves freely. The arm that stops the pedal coming back any further, we did grind away at that slightly to allow the accelerator to physically move more. If more was taken off there'd probably be enough movement there.

Moves OK without the pedal/throttle cable by hand but physically there is about 2 inch of travel that seems to be missing from the cable to allow it to pull as needed to open the 2nd choke.

I'll take a look at it tomorrow again perhaps, and see if I can fabricate a bracket!
