BIS timing
« on: March 18, 2014, 09:02:53 PM »
Just a quick question for those who have strobe trimmed a BIS before. I hooked mine up today because I have a small flat spot and wanted to see if it was ok. On the BIS there's three pointers on the timing chain case and a notch on the crank pulley/oil filter. One of the pointers is larger than the other two so I take this as the TDC mark. The manual says that at tick over (idle) it should be 10 Degrees before TDC so my question is which pointer is 10 BTDC?

The o/d of the pulley is about 14.8 cms so if you calculate the circumference and divide by 36 to get the 10 degrees you get 1.29cms  :D
The hard bit if you are strobing is to get an accurate straight on view of the marks with the rear panel in position. I have done it using a small mirror located on blue tack to get a precise view.

Thanks guys that's just what I was after. The view into the pulley area is very restricted I must say but I did manage to just get the light on. The mark was dancing between the first pointer (10 degrees) and the middle pointer (5 degrees) so I think a change of points and a re-gap and time up s needed
