Install 5 speed kitt. Hard to install?
« on: March 04, 2014, 07:24:04 PM »
Hey!

i´m thinking on install this 5 speed kitt to my gearbox. My gearbox is complete 100% new and have NOT roll 1m.

But is it hard to install it if a guy like me dont now to screw with the gearbox? Is this set just a "plug and play" and not change anything?

PS: Is there any guide to install it? video?

Going on that picture I'ld say it's not a plug and play. It looks like you have to replace the whole top shaft which you can only do by disassembly. On the plus side it's not a hard box to take apart. I've done one before (4 speed) and it's a doddle

okey, i´m not so good in english but what you mean is, a need to take out the whole top shaft and take that new 5 speed kit in the gearbox, just replace it? Nothing els?

Yes you,ll need to remove the top shaft and replace it with the one in the picture also add the small gear to the end of the bottom shaft.

Okey, but every gear, 1,2,3,4 is on one shaft? But in this kit it only 3,4,5 or is it complete? What small gear?

the 5th gear is the big one on the top of the shaft in the photo. when used with the little gear (the small one that is on its own in the photo) so you remove the old top shaft and replace it with the on in the picture which has the extra gear on it. Then remove the end nut on the bottom shaft and fit the little gear to complete the 5 gear set up. So you keep the old lower shaft but replace the top one. The casing is bigger because of the extra two gears

Okey, i understand little more. i did take of my gearbox today and check it and i did take some photos to se what you all mean.

Is it this i gone change with that new shaft on the photo?

But that "little gear" you talking about i need to fit it, or change it? Is this end nut in that "house"

Do you understand what i mean? :)

Yes in the top photo you are right, you remove this whole shaft and fit with the new one.

The little gear fits on the end of the bottom shaft. Can you remove the "other house" cover that's on the end of the gearbox and take a photo? Then I can show you  :)

Putting together a gearbox is a harder than putting together an engine.
Take a look in the Bis workshop manual. If the clearances are not OK,
you can destroy 1000E in a short time ???

But its not a bis gearbox. Its a fiat 650 aircooled gearbox :/ do you think its hard? I have got relly good information of a guy here how to do, i'm gone show him 1 more photo so i now 100% how to do.

It all depends how mechanically minded you are. I've taken a few gearboxes apart in my time and the 126/500 for me is pretty simple  :)
