engine and box out and back in

well I had a very wet bottom (engine and box that is) most of it was fom the top breather pipe having no jubbly clips on

so I took them out , to inspect the clutch condition and check engine seals , flywheel seal etc and to put both up on the bench to clean.
engine was ok just needed a good clean up with carb cleaner , made a hell of a difference.
 

 
cleaned the gearbox up and replaced oil and inner boot seals also the gearbox mounts had failed so on with new ones






before you all chip in , I know you can change the boots and check the oil level in the box without removing , but I wanted to take the gearbox inspection cover off to see how the gears looked and what level was in it, strangely I had no prob with the oil filler plug like most do.

Wow, fantastic work. Can I ask where you got your gearbox mounts from?

yes sure , there are two sites which I used for the parts, I got the mounts from rimcambi for 55 euros about £46 inc delivery and the gasket kit from rimcambio in the uk , they had the mounts but were £29.95 each plus postage.

both sites are on the topsite section of this forum . rimcambio in the uk sent me the wrong exhaust gaskets which I shall be emailing them about.

its strange to have two sites with almost the same name. one in uk rimcambio one in the Netherlands rimcambi
both were fast delivery

Basically ricambi is Italian for spare parts hence the names 
Having cleaned quite a few engines and gearboxes and it is not my favourite job I am impressed by your results. Did you say carb cleaner ?

yes . I tried engine degreaser , gunk , even jestwashing, would not touch it , that carb cleaner spray is the nuts.

Tell me more , what brand is it ? and doed it come by the bucket ? 
I ran out of AutoGlym cleaner which was not bad then bought some standard Halfords which is some wierd rubbish, I think they stole the formula from Fairy Liquid

will check on the brand but as far as I know they are all pretty much the same in my exp. also good for getting grease off carpets or clothes etc. much to the wife's relief .

   done a good job there, what sort of job is it to change the inner boot seals on the car, need to do mine.

the boots are a easy job , prob take about a hour to do both sides, just undo the outer driveshft nuts (4) pull towards gearbox drop the shaft down , do not loose the spring that sits inside. undo circlip on the end of the shaft and slide outer boot and hub off, undo 4 nuts that hold inner boot on , slide off and slip new one on. job done!
