Carb overhaul
« on: February 13, 2014, 09:25:00 PM »
currently getting a shoping list together which includes a petrol tank due to rust coming through into filter and am guessing its a good idea to give the carb a service, so wondering how far to go, I've seen various service kits at Axel Gerstl.

Is it a fairly straight forward job, should I just clean the jets, can I do this with the carb on the car or should I remove and strip the thing down further to check float etc..

I am guessing the carb I have is the 30 S2 HR as it has Made In Poland on top of it.

Here are a few items/kits I have found..

https://webshop.fiat500126.com/katalog/artikelinfo/2338/set_of_carburetor_gaskets_30_s2_hr_with_valve_large/2338

https://webshop.fiat500126.com/katalog/artikelinfo/2689/set_of_carburetor_gaskets_30_s2_hr_small/2689

https://webshop.fiat500126.com/katalog/artikelinfo/1679/carburetor_base_gasket_2_hole/1679

Also, does anyone know where I can get the black rubber seal that fits between the top of the carb and air intake housing?

Any advice apreciated  ::)

Hi Andy. Carbs are quite delicate, and I would suggest you remove it from the car once your new items have arrived, and have a large sheet of clean paper, put the carb on it and strip it down, and a pen and pad and write down what comes out of which place , unless your memory is like a youngster!.
You can also set the correct float cut off level, look inside the fuel bowl, change the jets if worn etc etc, Id hate to see you drop an all important jet/component into the most inaccessable place. Mike.
All things Italian.

Thanks Mike, I'll take pics and notes, not sure if to get the larger kit with valve etc..

Hi Andy , as flooding is a possible cause of your problems I would go for the new valve  :)

I think those rubber seals for between the carb and the filter housing normally come in the complete gasket set.

I have a spare one though if you need one.

cannot see one in that complete set? but this is the part (item 3) I'm after, as mine is split in various places. If you have one, pls let me know and I will PM you.  :)

You are right it`s not in that set. I thought it was that black item, but it`s too small. I must have got it in a head gasket set or something.
Anyway I have one. I also have a brand new fuel tank if you haven`t ordered one yet.
