Both the crankcases and the heads have the engine type on them:
110 for a 500 engine
120 for a station wagon
126 for a 126 (652cc heads also have a 650 mark)
You can also measure the bore:
479cc: 66.0mm
499cc: 67.4mm
595cc: 73.5mm
652cc: 77.0mm
There are differences between the earlier and later 652cc heads - the later ones are filled in a bit to raise compression (i.e. no squish band).
BIS engines are of course steam powered and leave a puddle of oily water wherever they are left.
