Front suspension adaptors used if car is lowered...
« on: February 13, 2013, 06:06:25 PM »
Hi there,

Did you ever seen these kind of adaptors/brackets? They use these when you mounted short shockers and 'Abarth' leaf spring. It brings the attachment holes higher up so total suspension will be set out right just like before. The wheelbase will stand straight again. A must have when lowering.

If you look carefully you'll note that they comne in one piece. No welding or so ever.
Ones shown here are for 500 but they should be available for 126 too. If anyone can find.

The 126 ones should be the same as the 500. The part number would also suggest this.

Where have you found these?  I would quiet like to see how these work on the car
1972 Fiat 500
1980 Fiat 126

No is not the same. Look closely and note that the nut holes are different. Early 500 had other smaller triangles then type 'R' and 126.
The ones in the picture are for early 500 with added 126 triangles.
Pictures come from eBay's Marktplaats. They seems to be out of stock and they do not come again....I can't believe that.
But anyway, these are made in Poland (..too)?

Would it not be easier to fit the reinforcing back plate at the height required, this would eliminate the additional offset this adapter plate will cause or am I missing something.

The two studs/bolts which hold the top a frame/swing arm to the inner wing are welded to a strengthening plate spot welded to the inside face of the inner wing. Drill two holes directly above the existing bolts by the amount you are lowering the front suspension. Drill through the strengthening plate spot welds and re position at the new height and weld into position.  You could buy replacement strengthening plates including studs and fit .  The plates look similar to this:

Ow kee. But the brackets I've just shown do not have to be welded at all. That's the whole point. That why it is nice to know where to get them...  :P :P
