Hello!!!
« on: December 13, 2012, 05:30:44 PM »
Hello

I have a beautiful 126 ... ( called Pearl ) Not really sure I know much about Fiat's,but I do love them. I wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations for garages in North or East London. It may sound stupid, I am not sure how to change the light bulbs on the front headlamps... and I am scared to mess it up! The light on the dash has also gone, which makes me think it may be electrical....so would like to have someone look at it.
Thanks!!

ANF !!!! Firstly welcome.

Secondly Buy a Haynes manual, these really are easy cars to work on. If you wish I am in Essex, I can change a bulb and have a look if you wish. If not there must be a member close by.

I'm in Harrow so not too far away - only thing is that I am away with work and then family until the beginning of Jan.

Your nearest classic Fiat specialists are Proietti in Blundell St, N7 - they know their stuff but are eye-wateringly expensive (all those wealthy North Londoners with classic 500s).

Changing the headlight bulbs and even the instrument panel bulbs is very easy once you know how, although if the lights aren't working properly then the switch on the steering column could be faulty, which is a fairly common issue.

What age and model is your car? Does it have an early dashboard (ie just a smal round speedo with a fuel gauge at the bottom) or a later one (larger rectangular instrument panel with switches at both ends)?

thank you guys!!
Great help - I do have the manual, so I am going to tackle this. I will keep you posted!!
I know the expensive Fiat 500 garage in North London  - yes!! Man, I wish I had that kind of cash!
She was born in 1983, it's a old style round dash.
So I am going to see if I can do this - thank you so much!!

Hello and welcome to the forum. I live in North London!! You can bring the car to Alfa Mania (London NW10). They do Fiats as well. They are currently restoring a vintage Fiat 500 and my red 126 Bis. Here is their website address.

If the problem turns out to be the column switch, let me know as I have a stock of brand new ones (Fiat branded, original shape made by a specialist supplier in Italy earlier on this year) which I'm selling to forum members for £30 plus postage.
