Bis swing arm conversion
« on: August 08, 2012, 01:13:36 PM »
Mate of mine has a Bis of which the rear swing arms are rusted trough. Would it be possible to use aircooled ones together with the shocks from aircooled? We can't find the swing arms for the Bis anywhere but we are not sure if the aircooled ones would fit.

I`ll have a look tomorrow, as I might have a set of each. I think it`s only the shock mounting points which are different.

I completely forgot about RITZ, they seem to be the only one to have 'em, have to check if they have 'em in stock and see about price with shipping.

Exactly what I was thinking, if it's only those points then it can be done, I hope Bis shocks are the same length too, could be stiffer too, Bis engine is heavier I think.

Well I checked today and they both seem to be the same. Even checked with a tape measure, the susp.arms that is.
Shock absorber mounting points also appear the same, if that makes sense. In theory the air cooled ones should fit but if you get stuck I`ve got a pair of used bis susp.arms.

Sorry to open an old post. But made a monumental cock up. Ive bought a pair of air cooled rear arms for my bis as the originals needed replacing. I only find out i had the wrong ones when it came to fitting the shock. Oops. The arm went on no hassle. Everything was put back on new brakes etc. the car is back on the ground minus a shock.  So mu question is if i buy an air cooled shock will i be ok or do i need new bis arms. The only thing different is where the bottom of the shock attaches. Simon.

IMO I think you will be ok using the aircooled shock/arms. I really can't see why they wouldn't fit. There maybe a small issue with the shocks being a little soft as the bis has a slightly heavier back end.

If you are not sure and don't want to use them ild be quite happy to take them off you  :D I have a bis and I want to fit stiffer sports shocks but sports shocks for a bis are rare and expensive so I was thinking of using an aircooled set up so I can use aircooled sports shocks which are a lot cheaper

A very very late response, sorry. I have a 126 BIS chassis under my barchetta 595 which has 126 air cooled trailing arms and AVO shocks, engine is air cooled. jacw

How much are the swing arms for both bis and air cooled? Which are cheaper? And is there any differences in strength?
