Fitting chrome bumpers to 1998 model.
« on: August 06, 2012, 12:51:34 PM »
Hi, just joined yesterday and find the site great!! I'm bringing a 98 126p from Poland in September. It is fitted with plastic bumpers...no side strips thankfully! I'm just wondering could I fit the old style chrome bumpers to it?? Think they look alot better than the plastic. Thanks guys

Looking forward to hearing about your trip back from Poland. I am sure that it will be a great experience. To fit the chrome bumpers you will need bumpers , mounting brackets & special bolts & the early number plate light assembly. Bolt hole spacing in the bodywork is the same so they go straight on.  :)

thanks!! i just want to get all the bits done over there before i bring it back to ireland. it should be a nice trip... slow but we wont be in any rush. Getting the car and us back the way we left poland is the most important!!

Yes I fitted the Chromes to my 2000 126... I found all the parts fine apart from the no. plate light bracket... that was an ebay find by ciaoflyer.
They were pretty simple to fit but you also need to get new lights to fit to on the back bumper as the reverse and fog lights come off with the plastic ones.
I don't think you have to have a reverse light by law though.
good luck

Thanks, think the chrome will be a nice touch. I live in the county sligo. Ive been to poland a good few times and it was there i seen my first 126p! So when i was there earlier this summer i took the plunge and bought one from a family friend of my girlfriends family. He had the car from new and he always used replacement fiat parts. The car earned its keep but it was well maintained. 90k km on the clock. Hopefully it will make it back to Ireland:)

Oh ya?? Would be handy to know if something did go wrong along the way. I plan on taking out the best available European breakdown cover with an Irish company before I go or with a polish one while we are there. Just to have all covered! is it expensive to get a car recovered from mainland europe and transported bk to Ireland??

Also my fiat is not fitted with a 12v power outlet. ie cigg lighter socket. Can i retro fit a unit? There is a blank in the dash beside the ashtray which is where, i presume the socket goes?
