earth strap
« on: February 25, 2006, 07:41:57 PM »
Hi everyone. Finally got the engine in and out, many thanks to PaulB. Just one problem   the earth strap attached to the left side of the rear panel that holds the bumper, where does it fit on the engine? I fitted it to the dynamo and realised my mistake when the battery blue a big spark at me :!: but i think it goes somewhere quite close.  it is the only thing I forgot to note or picture.
if you could help tonight, by email if poss, it would be great.  thanks a bunch everyone
Graham

The usual place on a 126 is the dynamo/alternator mount on the crankcase - use one of the mount bolts. Get everything clean for a good connection. Other end onto the rear crossbrace using one of the bolts on the left hand side.

Now you've had the engine out once, it will be quick in future - in may cases quicker than trying to work inside the engine compartment. Don't forget to give the oil filter a clean.

Hi Paul
thanks again for the advice - will look to fit it as you say. Got the idea now, engine in/out is pretty straightforward, but one tool is essential - a helper :!:  on your own is possible, but even this little machine weighs a few kilos and lifting it by yourself takes every ounce of strength, I know, cause now I'm knackered :!:
thanks again and will keep you posted.
best regards from a freezing czech republic (snowing again)
