Blowing a Fuse... and my top !
« on: June 02, 2012, 09:31:40 AM »
Man I have had some problems since embarking on my rebuild....
But the latest one is the straw that might break this camels back !!...

The car is finally running fine but as I was driving around today it all came to a halt when the second fuse (If counting from the front of the car) blew and kept blowing today. It Blows as soon as key turns to on !. Cant start car altho starter motor still goes as Electric fuel pump doesnt have power to it .. clearly runs off this fuse.. Disconnected power to pump and fuse still blows immediately as I am guessing its not the pump causing it to blow.. I am all out of ideas.. after spending 1000s on this AC 126. This isnt the result I expected. Does anybody have a suggestion at where I should look next

What was wrong with your mechanical pump?

First thing I would do is disconnect the fuel pump feed on the fusebox, and see if it still blows.  Perhaps the circuit is overloaded and you need a relay installed for the fuel pump.

Hi Skelz.

have you checked all the electrics with this fuse removed to find out what this powers, once you have found what isn't working you can start checking those circuits. If the fuse box is the ladder type No 2 (B) Supplies the horn and interior lights.

Number 2 on the BIS style fuse box is the heated rear window and warning light (the light to tell you the heated rear window is on).

Have a look at the fuse diagrams in the subscribers section. Is your heated rear window working?

JUst checked... My rego light works, my light on the dash shows that my rear heater is working BUT my dash fan doesn't seem to be working nor my indicators (cant remember if I need engine running for them to work) and fuel gauge.. Handbook says this is Fuse A.. Maybe they have been changed over the years !

If you unscrewed the fuse box to connect the fuel pump wire I would check that you haven't nipped any of the wires underneath that could be causing the short, No 2 (b) fuse from what I can work out supplies the wipers and the Coil  (1976 on), But you can check it out if you download the info in the subscriber section ;D The diagram below is how i have wired up my electric pump through a relay, You really need to run the power through a relay or you will burn out the wiring.
