Author Topic: Clutch Cable snaped + oil filler cap lid washer in engine!!! (Read 3155 times)

hi all, couple of problems i need to pick your brains with.

went out to clean BIS today. noticed again that the clutch pedal had slipped down (we tightened it up in goole) i tried to tighten it up and the cable snaped. Luckily i bought another from Andy at the meet. Hows best to fit it, i have never done one before, looks fairly simple though?

second problemo: on the filler cap there is a spring and washer/disc at the end, which comes up to allow the oil pressure outn through the breather and into airfilter housing, i had a rattling noise checked it and this disc thing wasnt ther so assume int gone into the sump/rest of engine.
is this doing alot of damage? the sump has to come off soon but what happens if this doesnt come out with it?

i hope someone can give me some ideas.

i will have a look of what the washer is made out of 2moz for you chap think its just a bit of rubber or some thing there is a little metal clip that holds it all together i no that much if its just a little bit of rubber i dought it could do any damage if its metal then :

I have changed one on an aircooled, and it was not too bad. Took two of us about 30 minutes.

Lucky I had that spare cable mate

Chris, take the rocker cover off, its probably in there as it would have to be really tiny to get down the oilways or mashed up in the valves!

hi guys, yes will do that Barry, only thing is with removing rocker cover, exhaust needs to come off to get to it

what a frank spencer i am.

david, 126cab, thinks they are a hard plastic washer, i thought they were metal, do you know what im talking about guys? the 500, aircooled and BIS all have the same cap.

, will be a sat morning job hopfully, we were worried it might snap on way back.

Plastic on the one I just bought. Also see eBay 803887050, looks like plastic on this one. It must have been snapped to drop through the hole. Unlikely to any damage. It will probably get mashed up by the timing gears.The worse it could do is to stick to the oil pump intake if parts make their way into the sump but as the oil is constanly being churned about in there that probably wouldn't happen. You can get the cap with stronger spring, I am not sure what the reason is though.
