Ok Guys,

Anybody know how to fix this ? Bonnet cable has come away from the opening handle in the dash. Bonnet is locked !! Need to get in, spare punctured the night before I went to Rome then car blew out all the water and overheated when we arrived at the airport. Something had jammed the fan from operating and maybe the thermostat has packed in. Need my toolkit !! 5 days in Rome and never saw any 126 at all, plenty of 500's though.

hi. try 2 pair of pliars one pair to hold the outer the other to pull the inner and it should release

hi guys,

PeterG thats a horrible one, ive never had the misfortune, but i mine was sticking on the 500 bonet. Has the cable completly gone? snapped away?
i dont think ther is a simple fix for this :sad:

have you tried gently tryuing to leaver the bonet up out of the catch?

lets hope someone else come sup with somthings, sorry to hear about the over heating, get a new thermostat in quick, Peter, i really recomend the thermostat relocation mod, ricambio do it. It will keep your engine nice and cool, its about Ã‚Â£100.

I think as the lad's say if you can grag the inner cable with a pair of pointy vice grip's and give it a firm pull (while holding the outer cable).

Well guys I cracked it after a bit of lateral thinking. Unscrew and take off ' dummy ' nearside air vent. With the aid of a torch you can see the back end of the mechanism underneath the inner lower windscreen valance. Use a long piece of sprung wire ( I used an old broken choke cable ) and bend a hook end ( around a small screwdriver for example ).

The lock release arm has a small hole in it to which the bonnet release cable is attached and crimped. You can grab the arm with the hook end of the home made ' tool '. Pull lightly at first and the lock should pop open.

Only took me about 10 minutes once I came up with the idea.

Now I can get the punctured spare repaired and fix the overheating problem !!
