timing?
« on: March 15, 2012, 01:38:58 PM »
hi, i have a 1980 deville with a standard engine (rebuilt with new exhauste valves). we have added 123 electronic ignition with twin spark. i have timed it 'by ear', but still seems to be a bit sluggish when warm and difficult to re-start when hot.....etc, etc. my question is this, how do you time with this type of ignition and what should it be set to for unleaded fuel....???
your assistance is much appreciated!

Hi tmf , do you have the original instructions for the 123 ignition as that tell you how to set it up and if it is the CAP type then you also have 16 different setings on the 123.

yeah, i have followed all of that and it didn't run that well at all. it is set to number one for 500 & 126 engines, it is also the complete distributor.  i then retarded the timing which helped but i still dont feel it is spot on?

I would think that the next best thing to do would be to check it out with a strobe timing light with the engine running.
