Bis Indicator Relay
« on: January 24, 2006, 08:31:46 PM »
Hi folks

I am on another quest for knowledge.

My BIS indicators flash very slowly, probably once every two seconds, but the hazards flash at normal speed. I have traced the 'click' under the bonnet to a relay of some sort.

If I change this will it solve the problem?

If so, has anyone got one?

Cheers

Sorry to resurrect a 10 year old thread, but the comments seemed most relevant.

I've always noticed the flasher seems slow, yet the hazards are quicker (you might even say they're up to modern-car speeds!)

My flasher relay has now died, so I'm wondering if it's worth replacing it with one of these digital ones I've seen in places (shown left in the picture). Does anyone have one of these that they can vouch for?

I've never used one but I do know that the hazards and the indicators use their own respective unit so replacing the hazard one (the cylindrical one) should sort the speed out

Think you're mistaken Gadge, the cylindrical one is the indicators. the big chunky one near the wiper motor, separate from the fuse box, is the hazard relay.

or am I being naive?

The indicators flashed slow on ours and if i had the lights on and the brake lights it went even slower but the hazards worked fine no matter what i had on.

I changed the relay  for another standard one and now they flash fine and i can have everything on and the speed stays the same  so it was definitely a relay problem :)

As for the digital one you posted i cant comment as ive never used one.

Sadly i never bought it new, i bought a job lot of relays from a scrap yard that was breaking a 126  on ebay.

I just did a search on ebay and found this but check its the right one first bud

Over time the relays used for the indicators tend to get "sticky" inside, this can draw some serious current. Replacing it with NOS does the trick.

Does anyone know if the EL and ELX still use the same relay?
