how to turn a badboy into boyracer

bought this car as a punishment for my lad as he smashed up a mk1 fiesta i had spent 6 months restoring only after having it for 2 days
project badboy came from


the car needs a tailgate glass, petrol tank, exhaust, different wheels, and painting back to original colour plus a really good service

might loose the seat covers as well - seats underneath are really good condition though

a bit of welding on inner skin before i find and fit a glass
would like to mod engine in some way - air filter etc - ideas welcome



help with finding parts would be good so i can get this on road asap and start shaming my son into driving it - should leave as it is really for maximum embarrassment

I agree, Pipe bending is a respectable career.

I like the idea of the revenge car! shame about the Fiesta!! A 126 was my first car, it was a bit of a laughing stock, but it never went fast enough for me to crash it!

i would like to take the forums advice on what we can do (without spending too much) on improving performance / handling etc right at the start to save doing some jobs twice.
say for instance electronic ignition / different air filters and any other easy quick win mods

I find myself stuck here where I had a BIS and I found it to be a fine piece of machinery, alot said about them on this forum in many many topics.
The BIS had a few issues, but then I never experienced these issues with my BIS and it went very well. I cruised at 70 on the motorway. It's no boy racer but respectable, I saw 80 a few times
There isn't alot about in the way of performance parts for the BIS but then the BIS-ista have been slowly chipping away and have seen some nice exhausts on here, one guy even supercharged his!!

In many ways I still wish I had my BIS.

Would be good to know it isn't going to be smashed-up in two days again.
Unfortunately with that paint job etc it is going to probably attract alot of attention, possibly the wrong kind. Probably the reason the rear screen got smashed?
Having owned and driven 126's for a while, my advice is to try make it blend in to the crowd.

I pranged my dad's car when I was younger, he made me buy it from him at the market value before the crash, he then parked it in the driveway and made me fix it. He became the most pedantic old git in the world checking over my work. I was allowed to drive nothing till the job was done.
I guess as parts become rare, guys want to know there is a future for the 'badboy'

we plan to spray or paint the car by roller back to the original blue colour (by the way what is that called?)
getting the gold flake paint off won't be easy as it looks as though it went on thick.
the cow seat covers will be put out to pasture
different wheels will be next on the agenda as these need spacers to fit and are a pain to line up each time a wheel is taken off.  Alternatively we might shorten the wheel nuts so they don't go through the drum as much.
but first i have to get the easy jobs done like a tank a back window an exhaust and then worry about the simple little things like an MOT
sending off for the log book this weekend as the previous owners dog looks as though it ate it
the "graphics" were not to take the p*ss but to actually advertise the firework shop and did a fine job i must say as they do a roaring trade each year with this outside to catch the eye but not any more.

They do new parts only and I recon for a tank unless someone has a good one to give you, thats probably your options.
The rear screen is yours that I have, 'put your name on it'

Great news about the plans for the car. Check the king pins on the front for play and I'd take the thermostat out so it cannot overheat.

i would keep the paint on the car as it looks like it was done well going on how thick it is from your comments once the graphics are removed and the comedy wheels, mirrors are replaced i suspect it will look pretty good. good luck in your recommisioning of this car and am sure that your son will become proud to drive such a fine car and the plus point is no one parked outside tescos at 1am will have one plus its retro!
