1982 A/C with a twist - hello at last...
« on: November 20, 2010, 11:54:47 PM »
Mike from Harrow here - I've been meaning to say hello properly since I bought my 126 last month (see http://club126uk.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5245.0) but this is the first chance I've had to get some photos uploaded.

I'd been keeping a look out for a really good air-cooled 126 for about 4 years but was always torn between going for something completely standard and original or something along the lines of a Group 2 car - so when Tuxey came up for sale, I just had to go for it.  Trevor's original sales posting gives all the details and with 34bhp at the wheels (according to a rolling road test) it's a bit nippier than your average!  It's also quite a lot noisier, which isn't making me very popular with my neighbours...

A few more general pics below. The blue VW Transporter in the first photo is our main transport.  The 126 makes a nice contrast!  The last photo is a bit of a giveaway for my other minor obsession - Honda Cubs.  Until recently I had three of them but after one close shave too many I've decided (i.e. been told by my wife) to cut down on the biking and I'm now down to one mint Honda C50 which won't see the road again until the spring.

I'll post some pics of the oily bits in a separate post.

And here are a couple of pics of the engine bay - the one improvement I'd like to make is electronic ignition but the finances need to recover a bit first.  I also ought to refit the bottom panel, at least for the winter.  It's also running without a thermostat but the cabin heating is connected and seems to warm up pretty quickly so I'll probably leave that as it is.

I was thinking about refitting the original speedo and steering wheel to take the interior back to the original but the FSM wheel in much better and the dual binnacle has really grown on me, even though the speedo reads in KMs.

Look forward to meeting other members and their cars before too long!

Mike

I think it's from a Giannini conversion - it's a straight swap for the standard binnacle.
