Headlight protectors
« on: March 22, 2010, 09:38:27 PM »
I am looking for a pair of headlight protectors. I managed to buy a pair of RHD headlights in v.good conditions from a breakers yard. I reckon the protectors will stop the headlights from rusting.

i won them off ebay, they look like ur cars got a mask on lol but they hold your head lights in aswell and yes i think they will help protect them from rusting aswell, theres a guy selling them on euro ebay(i think or he was) for 20 euros, we asked him how much postagewas to england was  20 euros for postage, so it would cost 40 euros for 2 headlight protectors

If you have got a good set of headlamps I would give them a good clean at the back , mask off the glass and the bulb mount hole then give them a good spray with something like Waxoil underseal or stonechip. When you fit them make sure you have the rubber boots over the bulb mount assembly. Also DO NOT throw away any RHD lenses as they can be recycled  [-/

Good idea Rusty, I think those 'protectors' would just help to keep the headlam that bit wet-er for longer.

Might stop the grit from getting into the boot though

;D Now look here Darrell I am guessing that those headlamp things are designed to close that gap between the lense and the front panel to keep it sealed . Will not protect the headlamp itself and they are also not contraceptives as we all know that that grit in your boot will make you limp.

They do help keep some of the water/dirt out of the boot and behind the light, they also make the area around the headlight look smooooth :D

Pete126, many thanks. I have ordered a pair. I agree it does offer some protection.

Rusty, do you mean literally spary waxoyl on the exterior (rear) of the headlamps to stop it from rusting?

Yes that would be the general idea , anything that will protect & keep any moisture at bay.

I tend to use Daz myself for a tidy job  [-/
As to the headlamps a "hard" coat paint will break down along with the coating on the reflector . A tough and more flexible cover or a penetrative corrosion resisting coating may be better and if you have the headlamp back covers fitted then nothing nasty will rub off on your best frock

Does the headlight protectors replace the original headlight rubber frames?
