how come this forum is so quiet?
« on: January 05, 2010, 01:25:52 PM »
Im a member of several classic and interesting single model and general model forums and clubs. (mainly citroen stuff but also classic american and retro stuff) and i have to ask, this is no criticism by the way, just a question, why is this forum so quiet?

Its got 1100 members or more and this place has lest traffic and postings than a few places with only a couple of hundred members.

An active and healthy forum is often the sign of an active and healthy club in my opinion, anyone any ideas to liven things up at all??

For instance ive posted about 5 or 6 times in last 2 days, mainly my posts go un-replied too with less than helthy viewing numbers also.  Maybe im boring and nothing i say is of any interest, i dunno, doesnt seem right to me though.

Hi, you are regitered 1 October 2006 and have 38 posts (it is 0.30% of a post a day).
I am a member from9 June 2009 and have 182 posts. (0.86% of a post a day).
We don't know each other and can't compare at all but....

... i think it is up to the forum living its own life. You mentioned citroen - well, there is a significant difference in number of citroens and 126's, is it?
So there is a difference in people mentality, being busy, haveing another things to do.

What I am trying to say you can't compare forums. Try to compareany of your citroen forums to any popular VW forums. Citroen will seem quiet in the end.
We are small but well sticked together family and remember - the number of registered member and number of active members is a completly different thing mate.

BTW: maybe there is no such a relplay to your posts because they are mainly about citroens?? :)

I can assure you that the forum is far from quiet for a small forum. The server figures prove this from last year figures, so how can you make a statement that this forum has less traffic without having access to the club's server figures?

All forums are different for example the Fiat 500 club forum is a lot quieter than this forum and the 500 forum has been around a lot longer with a similar number of members.

Hey, let me clear this up, i was NOT having a dig or getting at anyone, its just a question, i should have maybe phrased it better.

Jan, i think 2 of my recent posts have mentioned citroens. The main one in a thread already talking about citroens.

Maybe i should have asked for more info before posting but im not talking about forum traffic, im talking about regular active posters.

So, how many 126's left in the UK then?  And proportionally how many members does this national club have?  And then how many regular posters does this forum have?

As for my post history, i shall explain.  I posted a good few times in 2006 when we first bought the little pink Bis, then in early 2007 my wife died, this unleashed a whole host of issues. Finances, House, Step-Kids, lots of issues, some of which are still getting sorted out.  I now finally have time and interest for the 126 again. Hence my sporadic until now posting.

Now i understand there are more 2CV's than 126's but the 2CV club forum has about 1200 members total, heres the clever bit only 248 active members, thats just 248 regular posters (regular counts as more than one post a week i believe and most of those active members have 1000's of posts to their name (about 10 or so have over 4000 posts) this forum has been running in that form since 2006, hence my original comments.

Again, no offence meant, i could and should have phrased it all better. Thanks.

"So, how many 126's left in the UK then?"

It's a job to say? but check this thread out
http://club126uk.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=4026.0

"And proportionally how many members does this national club have?"

Membership figures are very deceiving. Many members have sold their 126's but they are still registered on the forum and still have an interest in 126's. I would not say Club126UK is a National Fiat 126 Club, it's a forum run type club.

There were problems with the old club fiat126.co.uk regarding memberships etc and the decision was either to close the club or just run the club has a forum. Meetings and events are organised personally through the forum members. To be a member of club126uk is free, there is a group known as the Subscribers Members, these members have made a donation to the forum, the contributions are for covering the costs of the hosting services.

"And then how many regular posters does this forum have?"

Again it's a job to say, probably the only way to find out is to check the forum daily and see who is posting.

I hope that I have explained what Club126UK represents and I am always open to ideas to improve the forum and it's ratings?

Thanks Chris, thats really interesting actually.  Im amazed that there are 3000 odd registered as licenced still.  Thats quite a lot i think considering how often you dont see them day to day.

Im gonna talk to a friend of mine whos a web master for a car forum, see if he has any ideas about increasing forum traffic here :)

firstly matt s its good to hear you are getting things together i am sure i can speak for all members to say its great that you can still find interest in the 126 after all you have been through. this forum has a drop in sort of style as folk buy a 126 ask info and tend to come and go . there are a few hardcore 126 types who refuse to buy a proper car... and of course rusty... look as this forum as a haven of tranquility in a world of mayhem i would rather have it as it is and certainly not some super forum with thousands of comments on each post as it would only dilute the original question/answer. enjoy.
ps. happy new year to all ..even dajwid. ;)

Well there you go Matt, the forum is no longer quiet now you've stirred it up a little lol!

From what I've gauged none of the chaps on this forum object to us mentioning other cars on here in fact many are interested and encourage a bit of brand diversity , many own several other classics also so i personnaly don't think that you need to apoligise for doing so.
Very sorry to here about your wife and hope 2010 continues your rise back up.

I disagree. The forum is far from being quiet. There is definitely a lot of information traffic. Since I joined in July 2009 after buying my first 126 BIS, all my concerns and problems have been responded to. I am always learning something new everytime I log on. I am definitely more knowledgeable and therefore more confident owning a car I have always wanted, due to the valuable assistance of experienced members. Many thanks to all!

So lets keep this forum naturaly busy then. I also support Amatebs point of view - every single time I log in I find something either very interesting either very funny. Lots of enjoyment here and for me that's what I want. I do not feel any needs to be a part of mega big forum where to find the main subject of the tread you need to read back about 3426 answers and spend 3 days on it. Family atmosphere is fine with me. And as in every nice family I do welcome you Matt with my open arm.
