Hello fellow members,i need a gearbox for my sick 500.A 126 will do as long as its in good working order and preferably in the Notts/Derby and Leics areas please.

Do you have a 650 or 600 engine in it then if so I might be able to help, what the actual problem?

Hello Darkhorse,thanks for your prompt reply.It has its original 499cc motor,but am struggling to find a decent 500 box.So was thinking to get a 126 one and make one up out of the two.
Otherwise if i could find someone reasonably local,that could repair my own box,that would be another option.(jumps out of 4th).
This box was allegedly "rebuilt" and has never been right since it was fitted and its only covered 500 miles since the car was restored.

Hi Marco,

Well I'm pretty sure I can help out in one respect or another,Your 500 gearbox is obviously different in the casing as the starter is sat atop and not set to the side "a la 126" however all the gearbox internals are interchangeable even the Bis which has far better ratios and would make your car actually more user friendly, I have all the versions so can without a doubt help.

My number is 07707 389240 although I am based on the boundaries of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamsire and Northamptonshire I can If necessary travel to assist.

I think most of us like the 126 and 500!! I certainly do, and I want to see both on the road!! If we sacrifice one 126 gearbox then I donÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t think this will harm the 126 population whatsoever!!

Richard started off as purely a 500 enthusiast; through our club we have broadened his interest of small fiats to 126's!! Which he has just this weekend saved a late FSM air-cooled 126!! Which probably would have ended up being scarped? (Very similar to yours Barry not as nice yet though of course:D)!!!

What ever we do we need to keep them on the road!!! ThatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s the priority!!

OMG, Im in the 500 area.... lemme out!!!!
Chris, we are a lot friendlier to the 500 guys than the 500 club is to us 126ers! Its weird though, I once drove a 500 with a 126 engine and box and 126 suspension and wheels. It drove like a 126 but had the worm steering as opposed to our Polish racks which wasnt as precise and was cramped inside.. at the time I thought, why dont they just get a 126 instead? I love 500s really, but in the past many 126s have died to save 500s, really nice solid 126s too when no one wanted them. Ive been offered so many shells in the past in rust free condition from 500 owners its unreal. Trouble is when we need a gearbox etc they are priced at 500 levels which aint nice! Still love the oldies though, just that they arent as nice IMO.

i see what you mean,. i have heard of lovely 126's being scraped too, and your right its pushing prices up for us which is ashame, so i can see why your a little bitter. Yes the 500R had the same floor panels too as the 126!

about the 500 club, yes i have heard that someone has said somthing, but i personaly really dont care

(they are just jealous

) but if we are nice to everyone, then we are not to blame!! :cool:

i have a 500, that im restoring but intend to keep a 500 engine in!!!
