Rebuild/Refurb of a rally 126p, 650cc, 41BPH with HH carb.

Hi friends, I just got myself together today and started refurb of my rally spec 126. After I did manage to make my carb working perfect I decided it is a time and place to finally start.

Basicly it is 1995 fiat 126 with a lot of changes to it as it took a part in a group J races in Poland. Suspension is lowered with kayaba shocks and strait leaf on front, body was widened a little bit and strenghtened with some additional frames. There is a roll cage inside and both with widened wheels were made as a prototype around 1986 by PZM test garage (PZM - polish motor asociation). Gearbox is modified for track use but still usable on the road. Engine was modified as well and has: light flywheel, sport Heinrich carb, polished manifolds, shorter pistons, electronic modul, free intake and free exhaust (breda) + many many more but won't take your time as I will be changing loads of it again. More or less I just did start today and hope to finish all together before sun will come out again

There is a lots os spares with the car as i was collecting them "just in case" so will put some of them in a list (not needed) so maybe someone can have them. I did bought a lot of bits all over last 2 years to make one of these rally type maluch and will use these to build it up to my dream standard.

That's how it looked till now and after half day of work. Will keep updated and for sure i will need some advices while going with my project. It wont be very fast as I am busy bee now but will progress as best as I can.

It's not rude mate - I didn't count everything as it was long period of time and some of bits were done to it before i bought it but I would say including car, new floors and all welding modifications + equipement it was about 8.000 - 9.000 PLN (around £1.700)

It is hard to price some of these things as they came from different suppliers and load of people helped for free - art for an art

Will make a list next week Darell as i am not sure yet what I want to keep. In subject of the engine - it is a realy nice toy. The same guy who did it for this fiat has one 40BPH one he wants to sell so call me if you interested, I could ask him if he still has it.

BTW: Does anybody here was wiring naked shell from a scratch? Is it horribly hard? I am thinking as the easiest way for me to make changes, weld few additions and paint my shell would be to rid of all wiring and cables. To leave bare shell means. But I am not sure if i will be able to wire it back (with new loom obviously)...

As for the wiring, it isnt so hard but the original wires are ok. Unless it is an original wiring loom I'd stick with the original one.

I spent another 7 hours today to continue strippind it down. Quite easy but time consuming thing - especially I didnt decided yet if I will leave all wire loom or go for a new one. So I have to mark all cables to be able try use them again. Another thing is - I have no idea how to prepare deepest corners of a front boot to paint, almosty no acess what so ever. Can anyone advice on this one? Or maybe leave boot as it? From the other hand I wanted to paint it all over and inside so boot will look strange.... I dont know.

It came out I will have to remove steering column as it was lowered and extended for this "rally position grip". Otherwise rool cage wont come out. Even if it is dismatable. And i still have some additional wires in few places and I can't remember what they are for

Floor is new but painted with hammerite paint - does anybody knows if I can paint on a top of this or should I remove it before???

Well, all in all getting there slowly. Thanks to Darell for some precious advices. All other advices and ideas how to make my work easier are more than welcome guys. It is a small car but job looks like huge to take it where I want.









In the end - does anybody know place I could put my fiat for shell cleaning? There is a lot of old stickers and they wont come off easily.

To help with getting the stickers off, use a hot air gun or hairdryer if you abit nervous. Warm up the sticker pick the corner and peel slowly keep flicking the heat over the next bit to pull off. Keep it slow and pull it steady, be ready in case it breaks and you go flying backwards!!
If it leaves glue then soften it with thinners or we use a 3M citrus glue remover at work (health and safety!!)
