I have been looking at these , especialy as I drive with side lights on all the time & thought they would lighten the draw on the dynamo. Have also read up some info on them as this technology has moved on quite quickly in terms of bulb efficiency & brightness. Only reason I have not tried any is that I have a massive number of original type bulbs & they do not seem to want to blow. Also indicator bulbs are a problem as they do not draw enough power to trigger the flasher unit & you need to fit an electronic flasher unit but stop tail & side seem to be a sensible way to go  [-/

Yes, it is the way forward. As you say, they use much less electricity so less strain on the generator/alternator. Apparently, they no not generate any heat as well. They are not cheap at £12 a go for a pair but they will last a very, very long time.

OK, here's my two cents worth.

I bought a set of these years ago for my Cortina, and after few weeks the parklight area of my rear lenses were all melted due to the heat produced when the parkers were on. I dont know if the technology has changed since then, but i swore i would never use them again.

12 pounds sounds expensive. Try taking a look at ebay O/S as i have seen these bulbs going for about $2 aussie with free postage. Honk Kong based supplier from memory.

Xenon is the gas they put in to normal type halogen bulbs as gsxr126 used? they produce alot more heat the ones on ebay are LED's

I agree the description of the product is misleading. I think it is in fact an LED bulb not a xenon bulb as described. Pete, sorry, correct me if I am wrong but what you are saying is that the LEDs are great except that the 126 light unit (relflector) is not designed for LEDs. LEDs are suppose to emit significantly more light than conventional bulbs,  so I can not understand why it was not noticable in daylight. LEDs do not generate heat. It states that it is a direct replacement to the conventional bulb, no resistors or electronic relays needed. You will need a converson kit or something to use xenon bulbs/lights.

The light unit on older cars including 126's & 500's are designed for standard incandescent 1157 bulbs, if you have noticed on modern cars, trucks and buses using LED rear lights the units are specifically design for there rear light cluster and are spread across the hole area of the lens which are clear or have a slight clear red tint.
I also noticed in the advert on Ebay that he has a picture of the rear end of a BMW which use LED's as standard and not the bulbs he's selling, also the bulbs are not Emarked.

The light output of the LED lamp is 'straight out' and doesn't use the cars red lense well at all. What you get is a not particularly bright red dot instead of a decent rear light. This is especially dangerous in bad visibility as the red dot can't be seen until the vehicle behind you is up your chuff!.
If I get time I'll put in an LED on one side only and post a pic to show the difference.
