I've just joined this forum so I thought I'd introduce myself. I've always loved cars and as I keep telling the good lady, a man can never have enough cars. She seems to think, for some strange reason, that I should get rid of all the old wreaks as she calls them and buy one that actually works. This is a line of thought that I can't quite understand my self, new cars (I believe this is what she is thinking of) have all the appeal of a fridge and don't have the cheapness and ease of maintenence of old cars and anyway, as I keep telling her, If you have enough 'old bangers', them on average at least one of them should be working - usually.
I digress, the reason for joining is I've finally decided to start restoring a Fiat 126 based kit car I've had squirreled away for some time. This is an M.C.A. It looks a bit like an X1/9 (given the right light, acute myopia etc:). The car is generally in good condition but suffers from poor finish and attention to detail, probably from when it was assembled 20 plus years ago plus all those years of bodged repairs. (The electrics were spectacularly bad, hacked them out with a knife in the end!)
There seems to be very little information on the interweb (none really) and while it is a simple car and based on 126 mechanicals there seems to be a number of components that aren't Fiat eg: rear light clusters, door hinges.
Does anyone have any experience and info on these cars?
When I get the energy/technology I'll take some pics.
