Hi,

I am assuming these parts are not available from new at reasonable cost, having trawled the internet. if anyone knows of a place to buy these items new can they let me know?

I am looking for an offside (Drivers-side) door to fit a BIS of 1988 vintage, the colour is orange.  All the door internals on my current door work so if there is even a door out there without glass etc I would probably still be interested.  Mine is only rippled after a poor repair job but it is bugging me.  Colour choice is only in the ideal world, so I would also be interested in other colours.

I am also looking for a near-side rear plastic trim, the one which borders the wheel-arch.  Again before I bought the car someone has carried out some pretty poor welding and has failed to replace the trim.  If for no other reason I need the trim to cover up the poor welding!

Richie.

Looks like Rusty's Uncle has sorted me out for a sill trim, Thanks.  I think I shall get a quote for a door re-skin. At the local paint shop.

Cheers All,

Richie

Hi once again,

The rear sill trim Rusty's Uncle sent was not the correct one, so I am still looking for this part.  The one I am looking for has an upswept section which travels up the arch a couple of inches.

Also still looking for an orange BIS drivers door, as the prices at the paint shop for a skin  were 'surprising'.   :o

Grateful,

Richie.

Hi Richie , just saw that the bit I sent you did not match the one on your car . Would it help if I sent you the one from the other side so you would at least have a matching pair. I also measured a 126 speedo cable this morning and the outer was 2.48 metres  [-/

Hi Rusty's,

No drama about the trim, it needs to be the original thing so I shall keep looking.  Thanks by the way for measuring your speedo cable!  It turns out that Axel Gerstl had made an error by sending me the inner only.  They are sending the outer  today so I should be able to fit it by the end of next week.  Heaven only knows what had been fitted by the prior owner.

Owning a 126 is a little like owning a period house.....  Before you can change anything you have to sort all the previous botches carried out by other people.  Ho hum though, it still brings a grinn and should carry my forthcoming sea kayak brilliantly.

Cheers,  Richie

When I needed some 6 foot x 6 foot fence panels the old 126 was the only car that had any sort of roof rack so that was quite an interesting shopping trip  ::)
What I use is the cross bars from one of those old "uggliest ever" roof racks. The bars clip onto the gutter , can be fitted in minutes and can be stored in the boot as they take up little room  [-/

Posties dont fail me now!

Yes, just missed out on an 80s Nordkapp locally.  Outpriced again  >:(

That is one of the problems of living in Penzance, people know it is expensive to travel in order to get a bargain so they raise the price of 2nd hand goods.  It is a sort of 'Catch 22'.  It is a 220 mile round trip just to pick something up from Exeter!

Cheers,  Richie.
