Author Topic: broke wheel bolt ARGGHHHH ..anything i can do ? (Read 3441 times)

hello there i recently, well the other day infact got a punchure , and so removed the punchured wheel and replaced it with my spare ..
and tightned bolts gingerly but i thought they were fine .

but i then got a flash back of when i had my mini and had a flat and replaced tyre . and after 100 or so meteres the wheel shock off and i damaged the brakes/hub

so i went back to my fiat 500 and tightned them a little more ... ARGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH LOW AND BEHONE ONE HAS SNAPPED OFF

..HALF INSIDE THE DRUM/HUB AND HALF IN MY HAND

??

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO PLEASE TO REMOVE IT ? ..... AND I REMEMBER SOMEBODY TELLING ME ONLY THE OTHER DAY TO GET A SET OF FIAT PANDA WHEEL BOLTS ARE THE 500'S WERE DODGY ? . IS THIS INFO CORRECT AND IF SO CAN ANYONE POINT ME IN DIRECTION OF A FULL SET PLEASE?

ANYHELP WOULD BE FANTASTIC ......

You may be lucky and have enough stud protruding to grip it with a mole grips. It should no be to tight because the wheel is off.

Failing that, you could take the drum off and grip the stud in a vice

Failing that, place a nut over the broken stud and weld it to the stud, the heat also then helps to loosen it.

hello there , thank you for your help with my broken fiat 500 snapped wheel bolt, i had to take the hub off and take it to work and get the mechanic to drill it out for me, its fantastic now

i do however now require another wheel bolt , anyone got one i could have please ?

if not can you suggest a replacement bolt ? a man told me fiat panda bolts fit

but didnt say what year ? anyone know if its true, or they have an alternative ?

ive got a torque wrench now only ?1 from the car boot ( bargain hey

..hehe)

go to a tool shop and buy a set of stud extractors, it is a tool with a reversed taper thread on one end and a square shoulder on the other; drill a whole down the middle of the stud, screw in the extractor (turning it anti-clockwise screws it in), once it bites it will draw the broken stud out.
