hello there folks, ive just took the carb off and gave it a blow and a good clean up ...

i forgot to connect the petrol pipe and so doused all the car with petrol hehe ..

once i did connect it, it still backfires and splutters .. and still doesnt idle without choke ...

in your opinions should i now do the timing?

anyhelp would be great

yes, get the timing checked. Make sure that the contact points are set first before any timing adjustments.
Also check the valve clearances!
Once these are set you can investigate further if you still have any further problems.
