Hi guys,
I run a company which has developed low cost fuel injection for utility engines (mowers, generators etc) and small motorcycles.
The subject keeps coming up, what about small low cost cars, such as Tata's Nano (India) which has a 2 cylinder 700cc (ish) engine. We have prototype mower engines including 2-cylinder engines of that kind of capacity for big mowers.
Amongst my car collection I have a cinq sporting, I wanted to get a Seic sporting and transplant a mower engine into that. My colleagues felt it would be easier to use a citroen 2Cv as a prototype which already has a two cylinder engine. I thought a 2CV would be perceived as too old fashioned / quirky.
So the plan was hatched to seek out a 126 Bis and I quickly bagged one up. To be honest it isn't the best example but should be enough to prove the principle.
Had a nightmare getting it home as there is a problem either with the fuel pump or something in the tank/ lines, so it kept conking out every few miles. Eventually I set it up with a 5-litre plastic fuel can gaffa taped to the side of the engine bay and gravity/ siphon feeding down into the pump which got it going.
I grew up with a modified hillman imp so the layout of the car and the way it drives was enjoyably familiar, although my imp had twice the power.
Anyway, looking forward to smartening this car up a bit, sorting out one or two issues and then getting it onto fuel injection, I'll keep you posted.
We are on
www.scion-sprays.co.uk whilst my personal website is
www.fightingtorque.com, although it's quite out of date, my current collection is an Esprit S4 (285bhp) E34 530i touring (210bhp), Cinq sporting (54bhp) and the Bis. Despite the difference in power, I enjoy driving all of the first 3 so I imagine the Bis will also entertain me, it isn't just about bhp although more is usually a bit better.
Cheers,
Gav
