differences in exhausts

hi everyone,
i've been looking at sports exhausts for my niki, and i have found two to choose from that are in my price range, one says its for a 126 series 1 fiat 500 engine, and the other for a series 2 652cc..

the problem is that i have a series 2 126 and i like the look of the series 1 exhaust better..

so whats the difference? was the exhaust changed between models?
would i be wasting my money if i bought the series 1 exhaust?

The only thing you will have to change is the exhaust mounts (these metal bits that connect exhaust to the engine block - couldn't think of better word).

Exhaust design has changed when in 1982 650E model was introduced with higher compression ratio and different cam profiles.

I wouldn't think it makes much difference when you move for the sports exhaust anyway. From my observation older (smaller) exhaust boxes are lauder when it comes to sports exhaust but this may be only my opinion.

the 652 cylinders exhaust mounts may be a little higher due to the cylinder being larger i'm not sure if the cylinders have a larger bore or stroke but check this out first!

The height of the cylinders doesn't differ between 600 and 650 - both engines have the same stroke, conrod lenght and pitson height.

Even if the exhaust doesn't fit perfectly - which is the case when you skim head a lot and/or use different cylinder/piston sets - it is not a problem. After assembling the exhaust you use gas burner on the exhaust pipes to get rid of stress. If you don't do it the exhaust manifold will probalbly pull the bolts from the head.

what about engines less than 600? werent there fiat 500 engines smaller than 600?

I don't know much about 500 engines - but I would be suprised if the exhaust from Fiat 500 wouldn't fit to 126 aircooled.

basically yeah, i want the series 1 exhaust.

theres also a "very loud" exhaust in that store, which i dont want, but one of you people out there might:P that store has heaps of stuff, its all in german, but i found out that babelfish does a pretty good job of translating ebay pages.

I'm pretty sure that these exhausts are made in Poland.

The guy from the german ebay has polish name: Piotr Kubera which would confirm that. Probably you can find the same product on polish ebay.pl or allegro.pl for half of the price.

Coming back to exhaust types:

Sports "series 2" - I have one which looks exactly the same. It sounds very subtle, not much lauder from standard one

Sports "series 1" - I had 2 of those - depending on the manufacturer they might be very laud or just a bit laud. Definately this is the way to go for.
