500 topolino links?
« on: December 31, 2007, 02:49:07 AM »
hey all, as some of you might know, along with my 126 and various other cars, i have a '49 fiat topolino (500C).
i was pretty much just wondering if anyone knows of any good links to information sources, or online stores with parts for sale?
or even better yet, another community such as this one where such a car would be more common place?

the problem i have now is that the universal joint just before the diff is going to give out sometime in the not too distant future, the ruber has started to break apart fairly badly. i dont know why this is, as it looks quite new aside from the obvious damage.

basically, where on earth would i get the new parts required?

are you talking about the gearbox mounts??mine were so badly worn when i tried to remove them the rubber just ripped away completely i have replaced them with a polybush (from a bmw i'm told) i got them from a guy who had modified them to fit his 126 based buggy but no longer had the buggy i dont have a part number or anything but if you know a polybush (or similar) dealer and bring your whole mount and bracket they may be able to source a similar bushig for you (i dont know if the topolino mounts are the same as the bis the bis ones differ a bit from the A/C but they may be quite similar)
good luck!!
it's harder than it looks!

nope, a topolino is rear wheel drive with the engine (and gearbox) at the front. and so has a universal joint before the diff (at the back), and maybe one at the gearbox too, i havnt looked. it isnt a real universal joint, it's instead a rubber flex joint, as was standard on these cars, and the rubber in mine is fairly wrecked.
i think i have located a source though..

im still after any useful links:)

any good propshaft/driveshaft refurbisher should be able to help you, you should have no problem finding somewhere in Oz with all the RWD cars you have there, but you will probably find it costs more than buying the new part from italy.  40euro isnt that much for a cush drive like that
