hi chaps.....usual question i find myself asking again,as it's very original i think maybe i should leave it alone...i owned a 1964 anglia 105e not to long back that posed the same questions and ended up leaving it as henry ford intended(almost) but regreted it ever since...what do you lot think...i'll stick up some pics,,it's a lot better than it looks in pics and will polish up really well as i've done a sample panel....let me know your views..
i have thought that some economical lowering and trim removal might be the way to start

i say do a few mods, alloys with wider tyres work well for a start, but not to wide or you'll have to change the bodywork. best to keep so that you can pop the original bits back on.

only trouble is the alloys bump the insurance up

I've also got some vitaloni Californians for it to replace the horible originals (the door mirrors that is).

i'll be modding mine slightly, like fitting chrome bumpers, loosing all that 80's plastic from the sides, and lowerind it, but keeping the steel wheels. Alot of the work will go into the engine and interior

i know what you mean about the plastic,i do like the chrome bumpers but i really like them without any of it,so not sure :

: .engine will definately have to be played with a bit,,although it goes well enough for what it is it seems a bit of a shame to have rwd without the sideways fun.i think the wheels will have to be the first things to change.

not to sure how things will go but you know how things sort of snow ball,,air filter and exhaust will be the first as there the easiest,i suppose the head will probably get a little bit of attension and as i've got a snapped exhaust stud it makes sense to start here...how far it will go who knows but it very easy to get carried away :twisted: :twisted:

well, i've got all the tuning books and read them over and over and had a real good look at my engine closley, and theres definatly room for improvement, the biggest area is the head, i was surprised at how restricted it was so i got the air grinder to it and smoothed out all those rough, sharp casting marks, moddifed the inlet and carb for maximum air flow, and plan on fitting a K&N off my old marea, which will sit up by the air vent on the drivers side. Not quite sure on the exhaust but i'll think of something

Also, i'll be hopfully fitting electronic ignition to it, as well as an electric fuel pump and water pump and one of those pacet cooling fans. I've also lightend the flywheel to help stop vital hp being lost. Chuck in some fancy 4 core plug leads and good old BP Ultimate fuel and i hope to increase the hp about 15 - 20%? like you say, its already nippy as it is

I'm even seriously thinking of a 5 speed conversion...... :shock: .... just see how the money goes ....if you know what i mean

have you done all these mods to the engine already? if so I really interested how much material have gone with removing from the flywheel and whats the balance like on the crank now? Did you get this done profesionally or did you do it yourself? got pics?

the flywheel is balenced with the crank on the aircooled......im sure the bis is the same...you'll need to get the lot done again....pref with clutch fitted,i had mine done,the pressure plate was the worst culprit

how much difference did it make when you done the head??have you got any before and after pics??,,also have you tried running it on lrp petrol,theres a few stations still selling it like sainsburys,,i haven't tried the bis on it yet but my old 64 anglia loved it,,mmmmmmmm wish i still had it really!!!!still onward and upward,got a new project now and even though people don't drool over the fiat like they did the anglia i recon it's more fun to drive,,,

If you look at my pics in the garage section you see the mild modifications I have done to my BIS engine, I spent alot of time developing the head on mine having had the engine out on 3 or more occaisions due to big end bearing failure ( yes three times) which was eradicated by changing the crank over to needle roller bearings on both the load surface and the float surface, anyway I digress slightly on completion my cylinder head was minus a large jam jar of shavings from porting work. the head was skimmed because i cooked it on one occaison so compression is up i can't actually remember to what exactly and when it was skimmed new valve guides were fitted and the seats reground. the valves have been extensively reworked to increase flow reduce weight and to give better heat soak properties although i have yet to fit larger ones (mark 2 me thinks). At this point fitted with the webber option carb and standard exhaust the engine back pressure was so intense it mushroomed the exhaust hence the large bore free flow system i later developed and crafted for it and then came the fitment of twin 1.25" strombergs with a trick little rose jointed adjustable throttle linkage, no idea how fast it goes etc but with just the head work ONLY it ran off the clock on the flat witrh standard width wheels ( ie low drag) and haven't mentioned the bottm end work yet but that for another day

i'm still in the middle of rebuilding it, pictures to follow very soon, won't know if its ok or not till later on in the year because i've got the gearbox and suspention to rebuild first before refit, but i can't wait to see if it all makes a differance.

meuton.... theres a 200 thou "ring" of metal on the back (engine side) of the flywheel, goes in about 2 inches, its basiclly all of that, nearlly half a kilo i'd say
