hello everyone

i feel i am starting to get somewhere with my fiat 126 bis, i think

.
i bought some head lights about a month ago and thought they would not fit as they are LHD ones. ooops. I have been told you can tape the lights up or buy a conversion kit to alter the lights to RHD and it will pass the MOT.

i have now changed the lights but need a conversion kit anyone any ideas on where i might find one.

Hy,
Try haldfords or any motors shop or you can stick some black tape, the best way to do it is during night time get your car facing a hall and play with it until you managed to get the bean right.

put the lights on and when you mot the car explain that they are lhd lights and need the converters put on for a pass they will put them on using their equipment for you normally . if you buy a kit to stick on remember that you need one to convert lights for cars to drive in britain as the ones on sale here convert cars to drive on the continent.

hello i tryed halfords but they had the european ones so i have looked on ebay and found these

hope they are right but if not im only loosing about Ã‚Â£7.

the person that did my pre mot said the lights are fine just to put them on and see if you can get some converters.

i have put the lights on now and the car is booked in on saturday to get the exhaust fitted.

i just have a wheel bearing the tighten and the passanger side washer pipe to clean, then its back to the garage for the MOT and ill let him finish adjusting the lights for me.

i honeslty dont know how to adjust them.

if anyone as the same problem looking for months for RHD headlights just give up and buy the LHD ones, with a conversion kit.

i am getting there slowly but at least i know ill be joining you all at the retro rides event in august.

It may be worth keeping the old headlights. The lenses may be interchangeable (usually with a bit of work)
It's a common conversion for the Fiat 500 too swap the old UK lenses onto the new continental headlight units.

hi

i was originally thinking of doing something like that but thought all the conections were wrong untill i had a proper look at the car. I still have the old headlights just incase i ever need them. what would you use to reseal the lights once they have been taken appart. they do look like they would be a pain to take apart thou.

i will see if i can take apart the old ones first. (i think) lol

thats how i did mine,find the rustiest rhd ones you can and peel away the reflector,its held to the glass with silicon,then put some safety glasses and gloves on and gently break the lhd lenses off.
then just re fix the new lenses using black silicon....dead easy

i have done this on some headlights and just used an epoxy glue then sealed them with silicon .

Here's a trick we use on american lhd cars. if you cut the three tags off (red),

or file down the tabs on the standard bulb (green),

you can rotate the bulb to get rid of the righthand up lift. the car should be 10 to 15 foot away from a wall/garage and in the dark

hi phillipa,i had exactly the same problem with mine, i bought 2 from germany lhd,i smashed the lenses with a hammer because you wont need them anymore,and cut up my old headlights from the back to keep the lenses,i bonded them back in with sealer and they look gr8,there are diffrences between the bis and the aircooled lamps though,the aircooled have 2 seperate bulbs and the bis have just one,it is really simple to do the conversion,i did it as mine failed its mot on rust on the inside of the lights and didnt fancy stickers on the new ones

my german aircooled lamps took halogen bulbs.....very cheap and a sat mornig to convert=result

Thank you all for your advice, i think i will try taking apart the old lights first. i will see how it goes and let you all know. The lights on mine were rusty too. i am getting there slowly.

hi,i scrapped alot off the sealer on the front of the lense with a small flat screwdriver,i then put some thinners in the inside of the lamp and left it over night lense way down as it softens the sealer from the inside,it was much easier to remove the rest of it the next day when it will come out eventually
