thats ok m8, if nobody asked questions we wouldnt have a forum.

Gear box oil is EP 90,
and engine oil is 15w40 is recomended! 15 or 20 w40, part synthetic is best!

the sump plug bolt, is directly underneath the oil dipstick, next to the thermostat housing. Becareful when tightening back up, they thread themselves easily i find.

The gear box drainage is, underneath the car about in the middle of the car, its an indented bolt. Ask greenfly, hes become an expert of draining 126 gearboxes

, the filler bolt is (when looking underneath car from pasenger side) to the side of the gear box, quite high up.

hi maxlee... sounds like you've found the centrifugal oil filter.. its behind the right hand drive belt pulley.. to get the back panel off the car is easy enough but a complete bar-steward to get back on!!

see pic of mine bolts removed and filter cleaned, youll have to copy this link in google:

the bolt that sits through the big compressed spring is a nightmare to locate under the exhaust manifold and tighten down at the same time and you'll never do it on your own! (in the end i used those plastic ties you can get either side of the spring and tried to compress it!)
don't know how you'll get the filter cleaned without removing the rear apron, so make sure you have the engine well supported on a trolley jack because everything goes once the bolt is undone!

i used gunk to clean the filter and replace with a new seal,then tighten the cover back on, i bought millers oil, i think it was 20-50 classic, good stuff..

you may have read my post about gearbox oil.. make sure you can get the filler plug undone before you drain the gearbox oil out! it's located towards the engine obviously higher up than the drain plug which is clear to see.. the drain plug is a 12mm square socket attachment, the filler plug needs a 12mm female square drive socket or as 'Cars' mentioned the reverse of a 1/2 inch socket drive fits!

again i used millers gearbox oil (not hypoid) just a 70-80 grade..

i will have a look and pop down to the parts place (2nd home). going to ask the bloke for a oil filter for the 126 and tell him holfords do it

haven't even tuched it

been working on my old mans car got that moted then it broke so i still have to do that allso my renault 19 that is stopping me getting the fiat 126 out to work on it, still has not had the part i need pressing in to get it bacl on the road and out the way

i am going to sort the fiat out tho its not just going to sit there.

the only thing i have done is got a bck bumper off and made it darker and less faded same with the plastic trim down the sides of the doors

i want to get some pics and show every one but cant move it or work on it till r19 is done and moved :roll:

the good news is my r19 now runs and moves

so i'll move it round the front and move the bx back then the fiat can come out

i really need to get some pics of it

i told the guy that sold it to me i'll get some pics for his mum
(aged 97 :shock: ) of the car as he said it would brake her hart nowing he got rid of it

next weekend i will be free and the 126 will get some of my time on it

ok the nocking sound is a bigend shell

so its replace them full engine rebild i think

i have got better pics of inside the filter for you chris

send them to you 2moz as my hosting thing is playing up

all i can say is clean your filters i also have a pic of all the crap that i scraped out of it and its not pretty and i have fsh with it so fiat didnt do there job :?

will put some pics up soon and right a bit more bout plans for the spair engine now we no how it all gose

OK, reading this string, I need to refill my gearbox oil.

I don't have a manual for my BIS, so was going blind when I changed the oil. I found the sunken drain plug, undid it, and loads of black stuff came out, so I thought I had cracked it.

Of course, only then to find the other drain plug below the dipstick.

I was hoping that the gearbox and engine used the same oil, as it all looked and felt the same.

I still have a lot to learn, and this site is my best source of information so far.

its ok m8, im sending you a workshop manual with your membership package ive sent you an email

no the gear box and engine oil are different, you have to use gearbox oil, its EP 90 and the engine oil is 15w 40 part synthetic is good! Halfords best option!
