1987 fsm aircooled rev limiter !!!!
« on: October 24, 2006, 12:32:21 PM »
hi all,has anyone on here had problems with the twin coil???....i sure they are very reliable, but i cannot get rid of a missfire that comes in at 4500 ish rpm...i've done all the usual checks (including the traction control and pitlane button. ...),and this is the last thing to swop/check,'cept i dont have a spare to swop over.

:!:  are the aircooled ignition systems prone to points bounce like the old minis were???.................

Hi Dave have you tried the double underhang vetromat thats under the flux capacitor
I've just finished building this kit but hav'nt fitted it yet, i think it should improve the ignition performance,  about twelve quid from maplins. works like the old sparkrite capacitive discharge ignition.

might just go to 24 volt to give the buzzbomb a bit more ooommphh

mate of mine once was convinced about 16v cars......more voltage=go faster.........

Hi Dave was the engine running o.k. before, if it was then i'd check the fuel system pump and carb. on the timing have you a vacuum advance connected to just one choke of your dcoe weber?  or is all the advance done mechanically,

mechanical advance only..which is working.......i've changed the fuel pump to a facet one today.....,yes,the motor used to go right up to 6k+ rpm without a glitch.......ive put new points/condenser/leads(copper core, not carbon pooe)/plugs and have road tested and reset the timing as well, now is all back to where i started, and still not right, next step is take carb off an strip i guess
god i love/hate my little fiat.............

yes its sounds like there something amiss in the carb maybe the float sticking or something floating about near the main jet, let us know what happens.
